Best LR bullet...168 Nosler or Berger...

I have a Browning X-bolt I am wanting to shoot at long range distances. It's in 7mmMag and has a 26" barrel. It has a Vortex PST 6X24 on it.

So I am wanting to know which bullet/powder combo works for yall?? And which bullet do u prefer?

I have 168 grain Nosler LR I am trying right know. I tried IMR 7828 today threw it and and only got .70 3 shot group with it. Never got it any tighter. Now I know it's capable of tighter groups than this because I was able to get a .4 with 160 ballistic tips with H1000. But I wanted the flatter longer BC of the LRs or Berger that's why I'm wanting to switch.

So I think I will either try a few with the H1000 and see what she does then switch to either H4831SC or Magpro....until I achieve the sub MOA I'm looking for to shot accurately at long range. Would Love To Try Retumbo but it's impossible to find.

Also I would like to use the best tempeture tollerent powder I can use to. I shot 3 today and it was 46 degrees. Walked into my house loaded another where it was 68 and walked back out and shot it and the last shot was 55 fps faster. So it told me the imr wasn't very good I n a changing climate.

I've found that powder just doesn't make that big of accuracy difference. Some, but some bullets just shoot better in different rifles. Your rifle just may not like the LRAB as much as the std AB.

Don't forget about the Hornady A-max or 162 SST. That's what I shoot.

Powder wise, some new powders are coming out from IMR and Alliant that may be the ticket. I can't wait for RL-23 and RL-26(I think). I've had such good luck with RL-17 in my 7mm SAUM with light bullets.
H4831 should be constant though. I use some Ramshot powders and for a spherical powder they seem very consistent with temp. Maybe Magnum?

Try changing the seating depth on those 168 ABLR's I have been using them in my 280 AI with good results..

Shoot Berger, shoot better. I have the same set up, browning x bolt and vortex scope, it shoots the 168gr vlds great. I busted 2 milk jugs today at 1004yrds. I haven't tried the nosler 168 but my gun did not like the 175lrab. I finally decided if it ain't broke don't fix it. I hear that the Utah elk sportsman's tag holder just killed a hog of a elk at over 1100 yards with the Berger 168s. I just can't find a reason to shoot anything but Berger. I have 2 elk kills with 2 bullets shot, one this year and one last. One was at 608yrds and the other 560yrds.

Berger 168 vld, win case, CCI 250 primer, 71gr retumbo, cbto (with hornady comparorator) 3.761. This is 0.005 from the lands with my gun. I am sure it will do the same with h1000 or even better but I have retumbo and not h1000. Vel. Is 3035fps
When I got this gun I wanted a long range rifle but browning didn't make a long range x bolt at the time. I just bought the synthetic stalker in 7mm and it is a shooter. I wish I had the long range x bolt now but just cause I like how they look. It will shoot 0.5" at 100 and 8" 3 shoot groups at 1000 if I get the wind right. If you gun will do .7" at 100 and hold that to 1000 that is still just a 8" group at 1000. Have you tried shooting at distance?

That's awesome. I have the exact same setup and I am wanting that new browning to. I will probably get that new browning this next year. I really appreciate it. Going to throw some H1000 tonight and see what I can get!!! I haven't tried it at that longer range yet but I'm going to here pretty quickly.

Common misconception... What works in one rifle most likely will not in another, even if they are 100% identical. Every bore is different.

Yea I know that. Just figured it would give me a good place to head to and start from. Hey if it works awesome if it don't then i will keep trial and error in it. Glad to hear from another guy with the same setup that work and I don't have to put $1000s into a custom rifle.

The only thing I really don't like about the gun is the available after market stuff for it. It is nearly impossible to get things like replacement stocks and barrels.
