Berger 245 EOL Best Cartridge

300 norma improved would be the best repeater, 300 lapua improved best single shot. Get a bat hr action with 1-1/8" tenon as it has larger lug area and more meat around the cartridge than any other action out there standard rem700 footprint. The norma imp has similar capacity as a rum, 109-111 gr depending on who's chamber design. 3k fps should be pretty easily achieved at much lower pressure than anything based off a 300prc. You gotta figure this: 97gr powder capacity vs 109, that's a case with 12gr less capacity running the same speeds, likely pushing 70-75k psi to get it.

At over two pounds that seems like a heavy action when the OP is looking for lightweight.

OP I did load up some 245's in a PRC. I was using RL 26 just to see what it would do. Hornady brass. I was getting 2837 fps. About 2880 fps I saw an ejector mark.

I believe there is a poster by the name of Weatherbyfan that was getting around 2925 fps in his PRC with RL 33 if I remember correctly.

You might be best served since you want a TI action to do something like the PRC or Nosler and plus p it.

New bat vesper is a skeletonized hr, weighs 26oz, integral pic rail and recoil lug. I can pretty much guarantee it'll be the strongest action in that weight class.

I'm not familiar with their stuff. Just saw the weight on the HR and didn't think it fit for the application. Thanks for correcting me.

Wasn't meaning for correction, but attempting to provide more info. Bat has been the top benchrest action for a very long time, the hr is their hunter, and it's heavy, just in the last couple years have they started offering options in the light weight area. The aluminum body bumblebee and vampire, vesper, and another one off lightweight HR version offered through Lane Precision. They are extremely high quality, I have a vampire and the igniter, stuff is excellent.

300 RUM, VVN570 2830fps
300 Weatherby mag VVN570 2867fps
30 Nosler, VVN570 2875fps

Good news! That would put the 30 SM above, the PRC and at the 300 Norma, especially with the higher pressure case design, which is exactly what Ive been telling people. My 28" barrel at 3000'.👍

Just keep telling yourself that the RUM is that far down the list. I'm a Norma man myself but the RUM is undeniable.

Ran all of them on what?
Quick loads?
I hate to be the one to tell you this…
But I'm launching 245's out of my 300 RUM, with N570, alot faster than you say I can…. And I mean a lot…
The 300 prc and the 30 Sherman can launch a 245 faster than a 300 rum?
AT THE SAME PRESSURES…?
Not a chance.

I didnt post the quick load/pressure
Ive just posted what my cartridge will do!
I dont believe it will outrun a RUM either FYI. Thats probably not with a suitable throat in the Rum.

Or that fact that anyone running the 300 Norma with this same "magic" brass to the pressures he does and the Norma smashes the 30 SM yet again and it wouldn't even be close…….

The above quickload is clearly an error somewhere. No way a 300 rum with more 10gr + case capacity on the SM comes up 100 fps short. The math simply doesn't work out and the RUM will do it with significantly less pressure.
