ok i shipped my action off and now i am wondering on what contour barrel to have stuck on. thinking of a #8 at 32 or 34 inches. it is on a win 70 action and my other choices are a #7 or a heavy palma contour which is .930 straight taper after the shank and a 2.5" taper.

no barrel block will be used, just bedding the chamber area of the barrel. so what are some ideas on if the barrel will stress the action severely or should the length be shorter. building a 338 RUM for paper and crow hunting

win 70 is not very stif and have a 1 inch thread tenon

you need :

square the reciver Win 70 are never square at all

use only 28 or 30 inch ( if not too heavy at the muzzle

use break to lightened force on the small recoillug

remove counter taper on recoil lug

use pillar bedding in stailess steel machined to really match the receiver after to haveremachined the reciever to make pillar contact falt and square .

for big barrel I far prefer Savage receiver with Rem barrel fitting type .

good shooting
