Ballistic's help.

Can someone here run the ballistics for a 338 win mag shooting the ttsx 210. I have tried every load combo that I can find and I can get over 2760 fps. The folks at Barnes are telling me I need at leats 1600 fps for the TTSX to do it's job. I am wordering how far out the 210 will work.

Based on StdMetro G1BC of .482 => ~700yds (100yd zero).

Just ran a 338 Win Mag and a 210gr TTSX BT using 69gr RL17 and a G1 482 BC in Quick Load and it shows a velocity of 2973 with a 26 inch barrel. The pressure is 58,370 so would want to work up as always. The 1600fps recommended by Barns for proper expansion would be about 900 yards. With a 24 inch barrel it shows it at 2920 and a 860 yard max

If all you can get out of the load is 2760 then Quick Load shows your max at about 750 or less for proper expansion. This is all rifle dependent!!

Thank you guys, All I am looking for is a 500yds and under. I am getting very good groups with R19 and Ramshot Hunter. I was shocked yesterday I shot a factory Vortex 225 TTSX and the chrono gave a reading of 2790. I just could not get over the fact that a 225 was faster than the 210 handloads.

I guess I should not get hung up on velocities,

What are your loads with the 210??

I can get a 225 to 2900 fps with my #1 338win with 75 rl19, but I haven't put barnes through the rifle, only hornady and nos ab's.

With Ramshot Hunter I'm running 73 gn and fed 215gm primers, With the R19 74 gn with the fed primers. Col is the same on both @ 3.320 I tryed IMR 4831 with 70gn and could not get over 2650 fps.

Chrono is brand new also.

Both of the listed powders are putting great groups down range at 100.

The gun is a Ruger m77 with a 24' pipe. I get about the same #'s out of my Winchester Mod 70.

Need more cowbell.... the 210 should eat a bit more powder than the 225. Unfortunately you are running out of case capacity and both Lyman and Barnes show that pill topping around 2800 fps in a 24" bbl. with most powders including rl19 and i4831. Run your charge up a couple of grains on rl19 and see where it goes if you still have headroom.
I'd think about going to rl17 or 4350 here if rl19 won't wake up. You need a bit snappier/faster powder for these two rifles it seems to me.
