Mitchell Fitzpatrick topped the field today at the King of 2 Miles Comperition with his 375 wildcat and Bergers new prototype. Michell hit all the targets 1454, 1550, 1720, and 2011 yards respectively to score a incredible 40,000 points. From the words of teammate Brian Litz, Mitchels 375 wildcat and Bergers prototype are a super high performance combination that made short work of the ELR course.

Awesome.....

I keep hearing about 2 miles. Are they building up to it? Anybody know the basic set up, scoring, shots fired, time limits etc.

Straight from King of 2 Miles ' Facebook page: WE ARE ONLY A WEEK AWAY.
THis is the LATEST INFO, no mayor changes apart from adapting to having two electronic tragets from OAKWOOD CONTROLS

KING OF 2 MILES
28-30 June 2016
LATEST Information and Course of fire

• The KO2M competition for 2016 will be a three day competition on steel targets and electronic targets.
• The first two days, all teams will be given the opportunity to compete and qualify. Each team will be given one day to qualify depending on their arrival time at Whittington Center. The course of fire for each team will be from approximately 1500 yards to over 3000 yards.

COMPETITION
• First two days all teams compete, one day each team, from approximately 1500 yards up to over 3000 yards.
• WE WILL HAVE electronic targets and steel targets, up to a number of four or five, depending on the final setup target placement problems in the mountain range.
• RANGES to targets will be unknown until shooters briefing.
• ANGLES to targets will be unknown until shooters briefing, but not steep. This is not mountain shooting.
• MAX time for the stages will be adapted in case we can add some targets or in case we have to remove a target from the course of fire for any reason. BUT the general concept is around 2 minutes per target.
• On the third day, the top ten teams will shoot only over 1 mile to the maximum we can extract from the range at NRA Whittington and as close to 2 miles as we can.
• This a team competition (shooter and up to two spotters)
• Any rifle allowed as long as the shooter can lift the rifle AND ALL supports/bags from ground, using both hands.
• The rifle has to be supported in the front by a bipod not a rest
• The rifle has to be supported by a rear bag of any kind, a monopod or the shooter hand , not a rest
• All calibers are allowed
• Any rifle optics system allowed
• Any spotting scope system allowed
• Any type of rifle front bipod and rear bag allowed
• No weapon alibis
• Range to targets will be known but shooter is welcome to bring his LRF
• A SHOOTER CAN become other shooter´s spotter after he has shot his own
• SPOTTERS can double for various shooters if they are willing to.
• REMIND the SHOOTERS NEED CONCENTRATION and those who ARE NOT THEIR SPOTTERS should refrain to tell him or recommend him any action.
• Apart from helping spotting hits and misses spectators should try NOT to disturb shooters.

NOTES
• There will be no practicing allowed on the course prior to the competition.
• There will be a shooting position "box" for shooter and HIS spotters.
• Apart from the team shooting, the reserve shooting team, and the range masters, NO other spotting scopes will be allowed close to that box.
• Spectators and other teams NOT in reserve will be allowed in the area of the box, BUT only behind the shooter so as not to disturb him with instructions or feedback other than that of HIS spotters.
• Reserve team is the team that shoots next, after the team that is shooting the stage. Reserve team can be preparing his shooting position and spotters position with weapon UNLOADED and with Chamber FLAG or other visual indicator of an empty chamber.

DATES AND LOCATION
• The KO2M will be held 28 to 30th June 2016 at NRA Whittington
• The two days before sighting day for the FCSA 1000 yards World Championships and finals will be held the 30th June 2015, early morning ON THE sighting day of the World Championships.
• The shooting will be done from one side of the firing line of the 1000 yards range BUT on a different angle towards the mountains so as to not affect the shooting or logistics done on the 1000 yards pits or those shooters that might be zeroing or testing for the FCSA WC.
• Bring your .50 and shoot the 1000 yards World Championships too!!.

• The FACEBOOK page King of 2 miles is up

UNITS: 1US survey mile= 1609.3 meters = 1759 yards ; 2 miles:3518 yards

After 2015 KO2M we know that we can spot up to 2500 yards BUT we still have to test the systems at 3000 and over. THERE HAS BEEN DISCUSSION ABOUT THE CAPABILITY OF SPOTTING 100% OF THE HITS OVER 2500 YARDS WITH HUMAN SPOTTERS AND ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS. WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO DO SO, AND WILL SET TARGETS AS FAR AS WE CAN RELIABLY SPOT HITS 100%.

ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS WILL BE USED BEFORE AND DURING THE COMPETITION TO ALLOW SHOOTERS TO GET TO 2 MILES.

WE ARE BREAKING GROUND HERE, AND WE WILL TEST NEW SYSTEMS and USE the SYSTEMS that performed positively last year too.

IT MAY TAKE SOME TIME TO ACTUALLY DEVELOP A FULLY RELIABLE PROCEDURE TO SPOT AND RECORD HITS AT 2 MILES,

KO2M COURSE OF FIRE

1. FIRST AND SECOND DAY OF KING OF 2 MILES -- ELIMINATION STAGES—
TIMED NON STOP COURSE OF FIRE FROM APROXIMATELY 1500 YARDS TO 3000+ YARDS
2. THIRD DAY (FINALS) OF KING OF 2 MILES – FINALS —
TIMED NON STOP COURSE OF FIRE FROM OVER 1 MILE TO 2 MILES of as close to it as POSSIBLE AT the new location of the Extreme range at NRA WHITTINGTON RANGE.

COURSE OF FIRE NOTES
• TEAMS WILL BE GIVEN A RANGE MAP WITH TARGET POSITIONS AND RANGES TO TARGETS. Laser range finders are allowed
• SHOOTERS WILL NOT CHANGE POSITION FOR THE 4 TARGETS.
• START ON TARGET 1 STAGE 1 WITH around 5 MINUTES TO ADOPT POSITION, LOCATE AND PREPARE FIRE SOLUTION while the previous team shoots.

• THEN, around 9 (nine) MINUTES to shoot all targets from target 1 to target 4.
• 14 ROUNDS MAX

• MISSING ONE TARGET WITH ALL ITS ALLOWED ROUNDS ( 5 RDS on TARGET 1 and 3 rounds on targets 2 , 3 and 4) will MEAN ELIMINATION.
NOTES:

• This is a TEAM EVENT. Shooter and one or two spotters.
• TIES WILL BE solved based on : 1st number of total hits AND if ties still holds - 2nd total time shooting all targets

SCORING

ON TARGET 1 ( 5 rds MAX on target 1)
• FIRST ROUNDS HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 5
• SECOND ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 4
• THIRD ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 3
• FOURTH ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 2
• FIFTH ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 1

ON TARGETS 2 to 4 ( 3 rds max on target 2 to 4)
• FIRST ROUNDS HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 3
• SECOND ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 2
• THIRD ROUND HITS WILL COUNT YARDAGE X 1

EXAMPLE OF a TARGET SCORING (FOR EXAMPLE AT 1870 YARDS )

TOP SCORE ON TARGET 2 CAN BE
First round hit = 1870x3= 5610 points
+ Second round hit = 1870x2= 3740 points
+ Third round hit = 1870x1= 1870 points
PLUS TIME BONUS

WORST SCORE WILL BE : 0 POINTS
NO First round hit = 0 points
NO Second round hit = 0 points
NO Third round hit = 0 points
NO Time bonus FOR having used time (seconds used deduced from max) = 0

SAME PROCEDURE FOR THE REST OF THE TARGETS
TIME BONUS FOR UNDER max. time (seconds used deduced from max) = SHOOTER TIME ADDED TO POINTS

END OF KO2M 2016 INFO

Congrats Berger...

But I also have to ask this...

If they can make a working prototype .375 LR pill that will appease ~2% of the shooting population for this feat of shooting 2 miles... Are they ever going to come up with a working prototype .257 long range bullet that weighs more than 115 grains...Even if it requires a faster twist than 1:10"... I'm sure someone will make a 1:9" or 1:8" twist .257 barrel if a bullet becomes available and revives the .257 market. I mean, nobody really had a 1:9 twist .30 cal barrel or a 1:8 twist 6.5, or a 1:6" twist .223 or a 1:8 twist 7mm barrel before the bullets came to market... They all had to be special ordered. But now they're considered common-place and just about every barrel maker offers them.

Sorry if this causes a derail, it is not my intention to start a debate, it was meant as more of a statement or rhetorical question, than an actual query...

The Advanced Ballistics team took 1st, 2nd and 4th at the King of 2 Miles!!!

1st Mitchell Fitzpatrick using a 375 wildcat and the 400 grain 375 Berger prototype

2nd Brian Litz using a 338 Edge and the Berger 300 grain 338 Hybrid

4th Paul Phillips (unlisted rifle)

Congratulations gentlemen on a job well done. Your first round hits at 2480 goes to show that teamwork, science, and ballistic performance are major keys to ELR success. According to reports it looks like the 400 grain Berger bullet had a G7 BC rating of .56 at over 3000 fps. I can't wait to hear more about the development of this bullet.

I'm pretty sure Paul was shooting Bryan's rifle at the event.

Awesome Corey, thank you. I was hoping either you or Phil would chime in. The info off the AB page listed Bryan's and Mitchell's but had no mention of Paul's. I'm sure Berger is extremely satisfied with the showing of their 375 prototype.. What a great honor to have these gentlemen place as high as they did using Berger Bullets.

I am pretty sure Lilja already offers a 1-8 twist .257 Barrel.

They do....
