Some brakes are absolutely obnoxious, I don't use them. As someone who is not a professional sniper, that is about the only good thing I can say for cans. I think cans are a lot more trouble and expense that they are worth. Still must wear hearing protection with a can.
If your shooting budget is unlimited then get cans but most of us should spend our money on better barrels or reloading components and that sort of thing.

Some guys have an inability to admit they were wrong, even when presented with evidence. Hopefully they don't hold important jobs.

It's the same way with rifles when people cant get them to shot good groups, the barrel is the first thing they blame.
