a couple years ago even talking about building a DIY precision bolt gun was almost unheard of! Same with a pre fit barrel.
While many of us have build our own glocks, Sigs, HK, AK47 and 1911s these days. Almost no one has build their own bolt gun!
The point is, with today's tight tolerances offered by the action manufacturer and barrel makers, building your own (or assembly of your own) rifle is a piece of cake!
Tools needed:
1)Barrel vice (unless your action does not require it)
2)Action wrench
3) torque wrench (foot pounds)
4) Allen wrench set
5) torx set
6) pin punch (for trigger install)
7) inch pound torque wrench
There are only a hand full of parts to put together when you assemble your rifle, and most these days are what I would consider "drop in" parts that require almost no tuning.
1) barrel
2) action
3) trigger
4) stock/chassis
5) bottom metal
So compared to the AR-15 you put together, the precision rifle is by in large a much simpler build that most, (I did say most) folks can handle!
At Straight Jacket Armory LLC we are making pre-chambered barrels that ensure .0005" accuracy (runnout and headspace) and 1/2MOA there is no guess work to install as these barrels are shouldered! Simply screw the barrel into your action, Torque and you ready to push in 2 trigger pins, then tighten 2 action screws securing the chassis and boom! Instant rifle was born!
Check out the Chassis Prefit Carbon fiber, and stainless. Actions, Barreled Actions. Heck we even do prefits for the Seekins HAVAK!
