97gr absolute hammer 6.5 grendel Game changer!!

Hey mike I can't remember but I'll bring it up in this thread. Is this out of an ar?
I'm having trouble in my ar even matching speeds of the 99. Seems my bolt is unlocking to soon. I ordered a larue upper and gonna get an adjustable gas block to slow it down. Both the auto and bolt saw pressure at the same spot using the 99 so I assume it's a pressure spike or something with the 97.
Yes it is in an AR. I do have an adjustable gas block.

I think that's my next move as it shows no other pressure so I think it's unlocking the bolt to early. Only getting 2680 out of the 97 before it created a belt at the base of the brass. My bolt has zero pressure with almost 3k FPS

Everyone is telling me it's rl 10 spiking pressure to fast but Barnes has it for a 100gr and they are getting more speed than me so I think it's in the gas system.

As you can tell I'm no expert in ar's but I should be as much as I use them. I've just been very lucky and never had to do much to mine other than load work.

I couldn't get the 109 AH's to shoot in my 16" AR, but currently getting 2800fps with the 99 HH's, SD 4, ES 10 and 0.5 MOA or less. Been wanting to try the 97 AH's though, following.

Interesting. I have some 109AH loaded up just waiting for time to get back to the range.

What is the twist rate on your barrel?

I just looked back at reloading notes...need to amend my statement. I'm remembering now, actually had promising groups with the 109AH but speed wasn't where I wanted it. So "couldn't get it to shoot" wasn't the right statement. I did 5 ladders, I'll post the max charge I shot on each powder. Some of these were compressed loads, but I didn't see any pressure signs.

Benchmark - 30.0 Gr: 2661 fps (ladder produced huge 5" group)
H322 - 29.6 Gr: 2628 fps (ladder produced 1.5" group)
IMR 4198 - 25.8 Gr: 2645 fps (ladder produced 1.5" group)
H4895 - 29.0 Gr: 2522 fps (ladder produced 3" group)
Power Pro Varmint - 31.6 Gr: 2598 fps (ladder produced 2" group)

I tried the 99 HH and saw 2800-2900 fps right off the bat. Settled on 27.6 Gr of H4198 which is shooting lights out.

If I could get the 97 AH to break 3000 fps in my 16" barrel, that'd be exciting.

Those velocities are really low. I'm expecting to get at least 2800 out of the 109AH with a 20"
barrel. Im already seeing 2960 with the 97AH and have room to go.

Two things mike is right about the 109 unless it eats up to much case but even then
. Second if you are hitting 2900fps or even close with the 99 you are way over pressure. I have 3 running those and even the 18" I'm not able to get that. Anything over 2800 you are pushing it. I'm also just shy of 3000k in my 16" and have more room but I had a full case and I hate to compress powders I'm not certain of like Rl10x. I assume it's temp sensitive and when temp goes up it can get rough, add in a compressed load and bad things can happen.
I can say I don't think it matters those 99's are punching way above that weight on game.

I get 2844 with the 99 hammer hunter in my 20" barrel and that's about the limit I can push it.

I will say for whatever reason Alexander barrels seem to be "faster" than others including my Bartlein 5R barrel.

Correct I remember you having a 20" so 2800-2900 with a 16" is probably to hot. But again I do t tell others what to be comfortable with.
Talked with Steve about a 85 gr absolute
. He said the 85 already has a bare min of bearing surface. That being said unless you can't get the 97 to shoot why would you want a lighter bullet at the same speed as the heavier one. Boy I hope that gas block straightens out my issue and I can get that 97gr over 2900fps

No no no, it's not a gamechanger. It's a hammer. Sierra makes the gamechanger!🤪
