7 PRC New Build help me decide….

I'm going to build a 7 PRC…hell with it. I can't make up my mind on the barrel. I want a sort of do it all LIGHT Rifle for Texas. Nilgai will be included in the target species. I will focus on the 175/180 Berger. I'm going to lose velocity on the 21" barrel but I've had such good luck with Bartlein SS barrels. I originally had decided on my first Carbon build but I think the short barrel has some advantages…. Occasionally hunting form a blind. I will run a suppressor 7" TBeast all the time.

I need a barrel-
Choices
21" #3 Bartlein at about 3# 5/8x24
24" Sendero Bartlein Carbon 5/8x24

Figure weight on either barrel is about the same. Balance???

I don't own a suppressor so I would go with a 24 inch Bartlein. Carbon is ok, but those Bartlein barrels are exceptional shooters.

If always suppressed could you go with a 20" (or 22") Bartlein CFW barrel?

I guess 21" is the first spot the #3 is good for 5/8"x24. At that point I'm not going to loose much weight but will gain significantly in Fps? Seems like a carbon in anything less than 24" is pretty hard to find

You might have to go to 20" with the Bartlein #3 to get .725. But 1" shouldn't matter that much.

Have a #3B on a .300. Was going #3 to save weight at 21" which is of course small but it adds up

My vote would be for the shorter 21" #3 as i think it might balance a little better with the can.

I'm working on a very similar build in 7PRC but decided to order a Bartlein CFW 20".

I have an existing build that I'm rebarreling that will be a lot like yours.... Defiance/EH1/Bart #3. Just waiting on the new bolt. You're spot on with your measurements and will be right at .725 if you want to trim 1/2" of shank. I'm also going 21" with a TBAC Dominus.

Who's your smith going to be?

I have 3 Bartlein CF barrels right now. They are tough to beat.

I would look for a Bartlein #13 CF 1:8.5" @ 20/22/24".

Just realize there is no brass available to speak of yet unless you want RCC or to roll your own. The RCC has not gotten a rave review on LRO. I read ADG and Lapua have no plans to make brass yet unless the cartridge blows out of the gate. Peterson would probably follow suit with ADG and Lapua.
