I recently had my smith rebarrel a 7 mag for me with a 28" long 1 and 9 Douglas barrel. He loaded his go to round with hornady 162 Amax and gun shot less than .25 at 100. I tried eldx and they just would not shoot at all. I tried reloader 25 which he used in his load, h1000, and retumbo. Best extreme spread I got was with 68.5 h1000 but extreme spread was over 70.

Decided to back to bergers like I shoot in every other rifle I own. I got 175 elite hunters and 180 hybrid. I have been trying to get a load plan in order and started realizing people were using br2 and 210 m with good results. My question is are standard large rifle primers a better choice than mag primers?
Do you normally get better results out of reloader 24 h1000 or retumbo as well? I will be testing them all for the record just curious

Try some IMR 7828 SSC with Federal 215M primers, and Nosler brass. Another good powder to try is IMR 7977. Also, how close to the lands are you seating the bullets? Bergers like to be close, so I seat all mine at .015" off.

I seated the hornady .015, .025, .035,.05 and the best I got was 3/4 Moa. With bergers I always run them close .015 was my plan with the 175 and 180. I have a pound of 7828 in my room I'll give it a go. I have never had luck with 215m. My 300 RUM likes 215s but went crazy with 215m. (Opened up 1/2 inch) I'll give it a go though.

I also get good results with IMR 7828. I use the regular cut, though. I am shooting the 160 grain Accubonds with .015" jump in my 7 rem mag.

How is temp stability in 7828. I have read all the articles but I have also heard people say that they see very little difference.

I use imr7828 cci 250 primers in my 7rm, it loves any pill from 145btsp to 175grn sp. With only 1 exception 162grn amax, for some reason I just cannot get any joy with amax. The hornady 154grn sp and 150 grn etip offer the best accuracy. But this is only my rifle

I try not to shoot my 7 mag much, or at all, when the temps get 75-80+ degrees. I have not seen a difference from 30-65 degrees, POI is the same out to 700 yards for me.

If you were shooting the AMAX well, try the ELD-M. The ELD-x is a different bullet than the AMAX.

I shot the 162 AMAX in my 7RM too, with H1000 and it shot great.
Switched to the ELD-M and it shoots even better with the exact same load

69.5 grains
Hornady Brass
2.70 COAL (Ogive to base)
3125 FPS (28" barrel)

Rem brass
CCI250
69.0 H1000
180 Hybrid
.0500 jump
2996fps in 26" 1:8.5" Bartlein
Shoots in the .2s or better
Kills elk very dead

If you want more speed, look at RL23 or RL26. Mine shoots so well, I don't need or want to chase the extra 50+ fps.
