6.5x284 load work up

I shoot 48.5 of H4350 @2980 144gr hybrid target. I love this dated info from accurateshooter.com under 6.5x284 data.

That seems like a hot load in the 6.5-284. My 6.5-284 maxes out at 3010 fps with 140 Bergers and Retumbo powder.

I shoot 140 smk's with 4831 at 2920fps for plinking

How much Retumbo are you using?
58 grains Retumbo with Fed210 in Nosler brass. The photo is 5 shot at 200yds with Lapua brass 53.1 4831 and 140 SMK.

It's not a .241 group just the 4 shots.

Looks like you have a good load going and you are shooting a 26" barrel. Mines a 24" so you should be running a little faster.

My normal load is 58.2 Retumbo Lapua brass BR2 primer.025 off the lands. Going 3074 with a coal of 3.122 using the 143 ELDX

Funny how each cartridge seems to have a sweet spot for particular powders and bullet weights. We all tend to end up in about the same place. Those RE 26 velocities are impressive.

Those numbers look pretty impressive!

I'm sitting on a fresh 8 pounds of RL26 (which I bought several years ago to try in the 6.5, a bunch of Lapua brass, and a bunch of 139 Scenars! Wanted to try the 26 in our 6.5-284, I think I have a good reason to try now! 😉 memtb

N560 is another great powder in the 6.5-284. Just got a new 24" Proof installed on mine and finishing up load work up. Using Retumbo with the 140 Berger Elite Hunter. It's going to be around 58.3 gr and 3020 fps. I'm tuning this load. Finalized a load with the 124 Hammer Hunter at 3204 fps (ES of 4) with 56.4 gr N560. It's one ragged hole accurate (0.33 moa)
Both loads are with Lapua brass and 210M primers
This is my 3rd barrel chambered in 6.5-284. All liked H4831 and Retumbo. RL23 works great as well

54.2gr rl26 in my 65x284 runs 156s mid 2900s very accurately. That's where that cartridge is most forgiving speed wise with 140+ gr bullets. I'd say you have a pretty fast(possibly heavily fouled) barrel, or a fast lot of powder. I'd max your usable powder charge around 56gr. The 473 case head isn't as durable in high pressure as say a 65prc, which holds just slightly more powder, but can operate ar higher psi reliably due to the case head strength and extra chamber grip added by the larger case area.
