i have a few short action 700 actions laying around.
I want to build a 6.5 prc.

Never have built a magnum short action rifle.

Question...

Can I use a standard short action for a 6.5 prc?

Feed ramp?
Feed rails?
Other mods to the action?

I would prefer actual 1st hand experience on the work that has to be done instead of something you've heard or read.

I appreciate all the info in advance!

Are you the 'builder' or will you use a gunsmith for your build?

If you're using a gunsmith, it will help to ask him for his advice instead of trying to explain what we think is right.

If this is a standard short action with a .308 bolt face then you will need to open up the bolt face and add an extractor. At this point, we generally recommend truing or blueprinting the action. Or your could order a new bolt from PT&G then have the gunsmith fit it.

The feed ramp will require some adjusting.

The feed rails need to be opened.

You will need a new magazine and follower or convert to a DBM.

Enjoy!

Yessir. My smith went over all stated above. I have the prc in the works and am in the process of running down parts for a 6mm creed. I appreciate the response and can't wait to get it back!

I think you'll enjoy this cartridge for both hunting and casual target shooting if that enters into the picture. :D

A 2.85 SA box wont work, you'll atleast need a 3" wyatts.
I would go with the 3.1 Baney box.
