My range doesn't allow us to get to our 500 yd steel plates, So I cant paint it and shoot it.
My question is if I was recording video thru my 36 power spotting scope do you think I could see impact at 500yds?

This target is at 800 yards filmed through a 50 power spotter with my cell phone. The first shot was with a 175gr Berger out of my 300 WSM. The second shot was at the same target a different day with a 750gr A-Max out if my 50 Bmg. I belive the steel target is 3/4" thick and about 18" square.

What adapter you using for cell phone?

I just purchased a cheap plastic cell phone cover and made an adapter to fit my spotting scope eyepiece out of plastic. Then I centered that up in the camera and glued it on with some epoxy.

This was videoed through a set of 15x56 binoculars at 750 yards. Using a home made adaptor for a galaxy s5.
The plate is 10x16 with a 4"white plate hanging in front.

Looks like 4" low at 7 o'clock on the first one, 4 inches out at 3 o'clock on the second.
