I am looking to put together a .416 Barrett for long range hunt, but I have a few questions. Has anyone taken game with solid brass lathe turned bullets? If so, how did they work? Also, has anyone used cases formed out of .50 Bmg? Thanks in advance.

There is no questioning that the 416 Barrett is capable of putting down the largest of game, just depending on which state you are in they may require an expandable bullet for hunting.

I would expect that ALMOST all states require some kind of expanding bullet choice.

Some have caliber restrictions, and others have weight restrictions, but other than that...go for it.

We shoot the Barrett M99 in .416 suppressed with an Elite Iron cal specific suppressor and it's a dream to send those big 395 solids....but in South Dakota, you've gotta shoot expanding bullets on big game.

If I was going to be hunting in one of those areas, I would use the hornady 450gr HPBT. But in areas where they don't require expanding bullets, solid brass projectiles offer better ballistic coefficent.

Another bullet option would be the Cutting Edge lathe turned hunting bullets. They are pricey, but work well on game.

As for the ability to kill something with a solid.... its a thumb size hole ripping through flesh with the energy of a sledge hammer. I would say its going to bleed out and die. Good placement would be DRT!
