What would be a good starting charge for a 338 edge? I am shooting a 300 grain berger. Not sure of the oal. Just looking for a good starting point. Thanks.

I'd start about 84grs of H-1000 or 95grs of R-33. I shoot 89grs of H-1000 and 100grs of R-33 with a 300gr SMK.

I am not saying you are wrong, but I would think 84 grains of H1000 is a little on the lite side. I always start at 89 GR, but have only been loading for the Edge for about a year now. It looks like the second one will mirror the first.....91 H1000 with PSI showing up at 94.

I guess there is nothing wrong with 84 g as a start....it is not low enough to cause problems that occure with an undercharge.

Good luck,
Tod

It is light but it's always smart to start there and work up. I have seen Edge's shoot 87grs at the normal 2800-2825fps accuracy node. With the old h-1000 lots it was more like 91-93grs.

Like I said..I am relitively new to the Edge. As always...safety first!!

In an Edge with 300gr SMKs or Bergers and the NEWER lots of H1000 with CCI 250's in Remington brass me and buddies are MAXING out around 90-91gr for good brass life. As always start low and work up. We're getting about 2,800-2,850 fps in about 4 different Edges. Good luck, they are a great long range choice!

I would like to hear your overall length to the lands. i think there has been a lot of edges chambered and throated different. mine is 3.965 base to tip with 300g bergers and really likes 95.0g H1000, shoots 2972fps average out of a 30" bartlein @ 4000ft elevation. i have a buddy with a 30"brux chambered by the same smith that likes 94.0g H1000 2970's average also.

I have two Edge 's .... First likes 90g H1000 and a CBTO of 2.880" (.020" off lands). The second likes 89g H1000 and a 3.020" CBTO (.010" off lands)..... Both shooting 300gr SMK's.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm using the newer lots of h1000. I'm using a 30 inch lilja tube 1:10 twist. Can't wait to get her out there and shoot.
