Saw on several other posts, that members here have 338-06 rifles in their inventory. I had a mauser rebarreled and tuned up for this caliber some years ago. It has earned a reputation for being an awesome deer-hammer. However my only experience with shooting it has been 100yds and closer.
Does this round make a decent "long range" caliber?
I do not have an ackley improved so I know that those who do have some advantage over my set up. I handload 54gr of IMR4064 with Nosler 200BT, this has given me my most accurate load.
I'm not sure what my range limitations would be with this cartridge.

Nosler recomends a minimum of 1600fps for their ballistic tips to perform properly on game. Go to JBM's on line ballistic site and plug in your BC and velocity and it will give you a good idea for the max on game performance of your load. Terminal ballistics mean jack to targets so that is a different story.
