338-06 load's

I'm wanting to use H4350 or reloader 17.
Those powders is what I would consider as the slow end of the powders for the 338-06.You will probably find as much as you can stuff in the case and still seat your bullet is going to be your load.I have found the 338-06 quite easy to load for. With the 200gr using H-4350 or Reloader-17 start at 60grs and keep going up.

What is your starting charge for the reloader 17

Reloader 17 @ 61.0
WLRM primer
WW Cases is a must
225gr Hornady SP or Nosler Part
Suggest flat base bullets not BT
2700 FPS

If you WLR primer instead of Magnum primers 63.0 of RL 17.

Bringing this one back from the archives.

What's everyone's thought on 200gr Etips and Staball 6.5? It's a tad slower than CFE223 and should fill the case well. I'm thinking about starting around 54 and just going up one grain at a time, one round over the chrono.

Staball6.5 is near, but a tad slower than 4350 powders according to the charts.E-Tips,being a mono-metal is a longer bullet by weight compared to a cup and core.I didn't check, but the 200gr E-Tips is probably about the same length as a 225gr cup and core. The longer bearing surface is a reason to reduce your load compared to a cup and core bullet of the same weight. They don't show load data for the 338-06 using Staball6.5.Using load data for 225gr bullet,I think you will find your load will be close to the 60.0gr mark.I haven't used the E-Tips in my 338-06,but with that bullet I'd be happy with 2700-2750fps,Staball6.5 might get you more,I don't know, but 2800fps is easy for me to get with 200gr Accubonds.Loading for my 338-06,I found anything around the 4350 burn range was getting in the slower end of the usable powders. http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle

Reloader 17 excellent powder in 338-06
Will get you 2700 FPS with 225 Nosler Part
WW brass and Fed 210 Match
Thanks for that load data!
I use Power Pro 2000-MR in both the 338-06 and the 35 Whelen AI. In the 338-06, PP 2000-MR will also give me an easy 2700 FPS with the 225 Partition in a 24 inch barrel
Cheers,
Rex

I've loaded plenty of 225 Accubonds with RL17 and they worked great, top notch velocities. With 200gr bullets, I actually found H380 and a mag primer to work very well. I'm going to give staball a go with some HotCors then move over to Etips to start over with a mono bullet load work up. 168s shoot very well in the 30-06 with staball, so we'll see what 338s do.

View attachment 154509 I really like the 200gr bullets with this cartridge.I am using a WLRM primer in all my loads. That 180gr seems to be able to get around 3000fps,the 200gr around 2800fps and the 210gr around 2725fps or so.I was able to get it to shoot good with the 4350 powder. The 210gr Partition bullet is a harder to push than the 200gr Accubond of Ballistic Silver Tip.It seems to pressure up a little quicker so keep that in mind working loads for it.That was one reason I went with the 200gr Accubond.I can easily get 2800fps and a better B.C.,so I figured I wasn't giving up too much to the 210 Partition.I think it's easier to get to shoot well than the Partition too.
180gr Accubond 58.0grs Varget 3010fps
180gr Accubond 60.0grs Big Game 2940fps
200gr Accubond 60.0grs 760
Grouped well, didn't have chronograph with me.
210gr Partition 54.0grs Varget 2721fps
200gr Accubond 59.0grs CFE223 2807fps
200gr Accubond 59.0grs Big Game 2812fps
200gr Accubond 61.0grs Accurate 4350 2661fps
210gr Partition 59.0grs Accurate 4350 2771fps

Good evening, is your 338-06 the standard or AI version?
