I still fairly new to reloading and could use a little help. This is the start to load work up for this rifle. With factory Federal 165g ttx loads it will shoot .5" at 100yds. and averaging 3050fps.

I have a browing a-bolt medallion 300wsm.
Winchester new brass
WLRM primers
Hodgdon superformance powder
COL of 2.840
Hornady 165g BTSP

I loaded up 3 of each powder charge going in .5g incrimants fromm 66-69g (book max). here are the velosities i saw with the F-1 chrograph 10ft from muzzle.

66g. 2701 2719 2694 .54"
66.5g ERR 2711 2773 1.54" with 2 at .42"
67g 2724 2670 2723 1.43" with 2 at .55"
67.5g 2789 2778 2753 1"
68g ERR 2854 2824 .51"
68.5g 2804 2692 2693 1.20" with 2 at .75"
69g 2812 2796 2778 1.40" with 2 at .17"

My velosities seem to be all over the place and the groups seem to reflect that. can some of you more wise people help me with my next step? thanks in advance.

Try RL 17 or H4350 and switch your primers. When I used Win primers my groups and velocities were all over the place, I switched to CCI and Fed primers and everything went back to normal.

I shoot RL 17 in my X Bolt with 185 grain Bergers and it shoots great. Good luck playing with your loads!

And drop the magnum primers

CCI BR2 or Fed GM210M you can use your favorite quality LR primers.

Use H4350. Very accurate.

I made my shooting buddy a little grumpy. I was shooting my 300WSM and I kept putting my impacts on top of his 338LM marks at 700 yards.

thanks for the help so far, Going to the gun show tomorrow and going to see if i can find any h4350, i'm needing some for my .270 anyways. hoping someone there will have some as i caint find any elsewhere.

any thoughts as to the very low velosities with the superformance? i know its not a miricle powder just expected to be closer to 3k.

Well no go at the gun show today, the only reloading stuff i saw was WSP for $10/100 and WLRM $55/1000. and some .451 hp for $39/100 didn't see any powder and cain't find any h4350 anywhere. So i think i'll load up some WIN 760 and try it either tuesday or saturday. I now have about 120 rounds down the tube but only 20 working up a load. I hope to find something and start fine tuning in the next 200rds so i can have some fun shooting. any more suggestions are always welcome.

I am also in the middle of developing a load for my 300 WSM. So far RL 17 seems best (as some one else already suggested.) I am using CCI primers and Berger 185 hybrids. Best so far is 5 shots/ 3.25 in at 400 yards. Next calm day I am going to try out to 6-800.
