I'm new to this forum. I've been shooting for 50 years plus. Last few years been doing some bench shooting out to 4-500 yards with a 308 and 7-08. I just got a used Savage 110 with a 22 inch semi bull threaded barrel. HS precision stock glass bedded and a 1.9 trigger. I'm trying to stretch out to 800-1000 which my others failed to do with success. It's got a 20 moa Nightforce base and I topped it off with a 4x14x56 Nightforce scope. Is the 22 inch barrel using 190 grain bullet going to be a drawback. I keep reading that it takes a 26 inch but my 308 is only a 20 inch and I can get out to this yardage but don't have the right scope, rail or set up to do it without guessing holdover. Thanks in advance.

I think you'll be fine out to 1000 yds with the 190 gr out of a 22" barrel.

If you have a velocity reading you could put the numbers in a ballistic program to see what to expect.

+1! My SAKO M995 .300WM 24" barrel 1:11" pushes the 190 Berger VLD out of the muzzle at 3043 FPS. It should be fairly close with a 22" 1:10" barrel.

I ran some 190 grain accubond long range through it today under some h1000. After 20 rounds I had taken a beating. Going Monday and picking up a little bastard muzzle brake. It's a real tack driver and I don't flinch but I'm black and blue. My 338 Remington ultra mag has a heavy shove. This one is snappy.

You will loose some velocity with a 22" but you will easily make a 1000yds with the 300win.

This is picture of rifle and it's doing a good job so far. I've been using H1000 and 190 Accubonds and tried some 165 Sierras under RL-22. They are shooting 1/2 inch or better at a 100. Loaded up some 180's in ImR 4831 and RL-22 to try out next week. Got to get it a Smith Monday and have a decelerater pad put on the rear. Screw holes are stripped in stock and going to have to find a grind to fit. Took a little beating Saturday after 20 rounds or so.

Sir, since your barrel is already threaded, you might just go ahead & put a muzzle brake on it! Altho they definitely add to the noise factor, it would help your shoulder, I'm sure! My 300 W.M.barrel isn't threaded, so Mine isn't as easy of a fix.... Idaho-5R

Hopefully rather than buy a new brake I found a company to go from 5/8 to 24 to 9/16x24 threads. This would allow me to use the little bastard apa brake I already have verses $200.00 for a new one. It's at gun smiths now getting a grind to fit recoil pad fitted for it. 1/4 inch hard rubber didn't help any.
