Good afternoon fellow re-loaders!

Just getting ready to load up some Berger 200.20x's for a 300 Win Mag with a 26" barrel and was wondering if anyone has some speed ranges or load data they would share. I am looking to run 4831SC or H1000 as I have had great success in the past with them both in this rifle and am lucky enough to have ample supply on hand to start working on getting it dialed in. Looking to save a bit of barrel life if possible...

Appreciate everyone's time, stay healthy!

H1000 is a cooler burning powder than H4831, so it would probably extend barrel life a little. I shot H4831 with 208gr ELDs and was able to get 2900FPS. I never tried H1000 but I tried IMR 7977 and it was a little faster than 4831 and it's very close to H1000 in burn rate.

I had been running Berger VLD's in 190's with 4831sc and was pushing about 2860 which I consider babying the barrel but I was thinking if I pushed it a bit, depending on what the barrel likes of course, I could stay around 2830-2860 pretty safely. Our cost on barrels and components in Canada is ridiculously high so I really just looking for a window to start off a little quicker. Appreciate your reply Jud96, I agree H1000 may save some barrel as well, may be getting nearer compressed though. As mention I am just getting ready to start so I will see what the safe ranges look like and progress from there. I will most likely jump .5 grains to speed things up a bit instead of working around .2-.3 which I normally follow.

I was unimpressed with H4831sc with 180-200 gr bullets out of my 300 Win Mag. H4831sc just did not provide the speed I was looking for. Accuracy was good but RL-22 was much faster and just as accurate shooting 180 gr Accubonds. H1000 was much faster with the 200 g ELD-X and more accurate too.

I'd use the H1000.

I would steer clear of H4831, not once in any cartridge was I able to get tight groupings or the book velocities.
For the 300WM 3 powders do it all, H1000, RETUMBO & RE25. There are others, but those 3 give me tight groups and high velocities with very little work and minor tuning. I run 210gr ABLR's or 200gr AB's in all of my 300's.

Cheers.

Just got some H1000 to try, but I was shooting Berger 210 HVLD with 69 gr H4831SC, Hornady brass, Fed 215GMM, .080 off lands in a Savage 110 24" barrel at 2700 fps. Certainly no speed demon but super accurate.

I would use H-1000 if you have good supply.. I have been shooting the Berger 210 behind 75.5 grains of H-1000 and had good luck. .030 jump and fed 215 primer 2890 fps in my rifle.. There seems to be a good node from 75.0 grains to 77.5 using H-1000 in the 300 win with 200 ish grain bullets.. Just start at 73.0 and work up..

I do have a pile of H1000 and will most certainly give it a go, appreciate the guidance. I am much more concerned with accuracy as realistically my longest shots with this rifle while hunting will be 600 yards, placement trumps horsepower here. I do a fair amount of practice to 1200 yards with this gun but I have a 7LRM that I take if I know I will be in an area where I need to reach out. The 7 cheats wind better and is tuned with H1000 to be a speed demon. Shout out to Dallas Lane for building that lazer.
Interesting that there are more folks using H1000 than 4831SC. Another reason for sticking with lower speeds and less pressure for me is barrel life, not sure what the difference would be between the two, I am sure it's not much though.

I have used H4831sc with the 210 Berger in 300 win. Good accuracy, but never checked velocity.

I get great velocity with it and the lighter 152 Hammers though.

just to show the other side of the coin.
my 300 win mag with 208's shot around point3 at 200 yards.
BUT
short cut never shot as well
a like rl 26 better with 210's

I have a Cooper Timberline 300 win mag that I have only shot factory ammo out of, it shot ok at best, I removed the break and now it shots bad with the same ammo, and I know removing the break would change the guns accuracy, looking for load information to start reloading ammo for it. I did reload years ago so I have all the stuff. I was shooting a 180 grain Nosler AccuBond Trophy grade. Any help would be great

IMO there is nothing wrong with H4831 it's a great powder, I've never had either of those issues.

Funny what works for one guy doesn't work for the other. 🤷‍♂️
