do you need to rechamber to use this round or do you just need to neck up the 300 brass and use in the338 rums standard chamber?

thanks!

You will have to rechamber, the 338 rum is around .100" shorter in the case body than 300 ultra case. Be careful when you do this and clearly mark the barrel 338-300 ultra not 338 ultra. This is why I call the 338-300 ultra the 338 EDGE, I don't want any confusion about what can be fired in it. If you fired a 338 ultra in a 338-300 chamber it will be a really bad day. Once you have covered your bases I believe that the 338-300 is the best bang for the buck in the LRH market right now.

what are the acutal advantages to the 338-300 over the 338 rum? say speed with 300gr smk? what about max load issues with the 338 rum max load is around 94 gr retumbo give or take a few gr. is the little extra the 300 rum case has over the 338 worth it or can you get close with the 338 on its own. The reason i ask is i have a 338 rum and it is shooting 300 smks @ 2700 i was wondering if it was worth it to bump it to 388-300.

thanks

We're doing a few fps faster on the 300 and a few fps slower on the 250 also a 30" tube with free bore.Just curious about other rifles in this configuration, thanks for the reply...
