30 sherman

215 Berger. I realize this was not a choice of yours. It flat drops game and the speed you typically lose with the 230 vs the extra bc is not worth it.
For you guys that have done a lot of testing if his speed with 230's is appox. 3050 fps then where will it fall appox. with the 215's? (3135?)

215 or 230 Berger Hybrids. We have killed a bunch of elk with them in my .300RUM. Loaded light @ 2960 or full power at 3100+, from 60 to 1180, they flat out work.

I should be getting my build back soon it's a 30 Sherman with a 28" barrel 1-9twist. This will be my longrange hunting rifle . My question is what bullet would you lean towards for hunting out to 1100yards from deer to elk size game. I have it narrowed down to 225 eld-m or 230 bergers. I have never shot any of this bullets but curious what people would use if it was there hunting rifle . And I will be using N570 as long as it likes the combo
I have been using the 190 grain Berger VLD @ 3280FPS in my .300 RUM Sendaro. It gives a very long PBR which I will not exceed when hunting game at long range. I have made this argument before and will not repeat it now. Heavier bullets shorten PBR by reducing MV. The thin jacket does not hold up well, but the long shank goes right through with much more than a ton of Impact Energy which is, according to the old formulae, twice as much as you need for elk! If I could find a good, VLD Match bullet with a heavy expanding jacket in the 150-168 grain range, I'd switch to get more MV and a flatter trajectory to a longer PBR. At least if you believe my friend who has used a .300 Weatherby for well over four decades now on big game with great success! PS. We were stationed together in Asmara, Ethiopia back in the late '60s and early '70s when he bought that rifle at the Rod and Gun Club and he shot everything with the same 150 grain at 3650 FPS load with tremendous success! Including many much larger game animals than Elk, like Zebra and Kudu, all WO a hitch.

Here is a comparison of the two at my elevation (4200')
As you can see, they are pretty close. I would pick the one that shoots the best in your rifle. Im leaning 230 because I like the extra mass and energy also aids in expansion.
