30 sherman magnum

Just curious, would a Sako 85 chambered in 7RM work for a doner action for the 30SM? I know the Sako LA is longer than the Tikka, but don't know if it is long enough to handle CIP stock(chassis)/mags? Probably not the direction I will go regardless but one just popped up in my searches.

Well Rich, Eric at Axis has my parts and will be making my 30 Sherman Mag.

Alamo Precision Rifles G2 action
Bartlein 1-9 carbon wrapped, M24 @ 26
Manners EH-1A in Tommy Bahama camo
Hawkins CIP length DBM
Trigger Tech Primary trigger
Area 419 hellfire brake

I ordered the Dies through your website last week and got them today.

28 Sherman Magnum load data from this morning. 26" wilson barrel, 8 twist and 195 Berger Elite Hunters.

Temp at 630 am was 52 and the elevation was 5702. Ran 2 rounds apiece at the following charges.

78g N570 BTO 2.900" MV 2967 ES 10 - This would be a good fire forming load as it ran about the same as 74g of H1000.
79g N570 BTO 2.900" MV 3020 ES 26
80g N570 BTO 2.900" MV 3083 ES 6
80.5g N570 BTO 2.900" MV 3081 ES 45 - Not sure what went on here.
81g N570 BTO 2.900" MV 3117 ES 1
81.5g N570 BTO 2.900" MV 3126 ES 20
82g N570 BTO 2.900" MV 3146 ES 28
82.5 N570 BTO 2.900" MV 3151 ES 1
83g N570 BTO 2.900" MV 3202 ES 7

Last two groups shot the best. I need to let the barrel cool longer between shots as extraction tends to get a little sticky. Same thing happened on my 30 Sherman Mags as well. I use Labradar as my chrono. The brass I used was Hornady necked down to the 28. I have not noticed any charge or speed difference between ADG and Hornady 300 PRC brass. My 30 Sherman Magnums run the 205 Berger Elite hunters at 3230fps and the 245 Berger Elite Hunters at 2970fps in either brass with the same charge. I never had an extractor kiss or hard bolt lift. These are loads that worked for me in rifles I chambered. These loads are for reference only and not reccomendations.

Have you done any testing with Retumbo? I use this in my 24 inch STW but get pressure at just over 80gr with a 162 ELD-X and an average velocity of 3121fps at 79.9gr. I'm interested in getting a new 26 inch, 8 twist barrel to shoot 195's, but haven't decided if I'm sticking with the STW, or going to the 28 Sherman or a 28 Nosler with longer throat.

I wish I could find Retumbo. I would have ha load data for you. I have built a lot of 28 Noslers but I think my 28 Sherman out runs them easily. The 195 Elite Hunters are running about 3038 fps out of a 26" barrel on my builds. My 28 Sherman is running them 3167 fps on an easy load. I think I should get twice the barrel life of a 28 Nolser. I am a ways away from finding out since work has been quite busy and I can't get to the range as much as I want to shoot the 28. Best of luck to you on any of those cartridges you are looking at.

I guess we will find out. I have 2 builds. One for a customer in 28 Nosler with a Wilson barrel 8 twist and one for myself in a 28 Sherman with a Wilson barrel 8 twist. Both are number 4 contours. Ask Rich how many rounds he is getting out of his 6.5 SST's compared to a 26 Nosler or 6.5 PRC.

That's because there is a vast difference between a 73 grain case and 102 grain case. The SS or Max can't compete with a 26 Nosler because there is so much case volume difference. I have a 7/300 PRC and have shot three rounds let cool. Throat has moved .008 in 100 rounds. It's still a 94 grain case that your stomping on with N570.

Just looked through this thread and have a couple 30 SM questions that I didn't see. If I missed the info sorry.
1) Anybody have any load data with H1000 and/or RL33 with Berger 230 OTM's or 245's?
2) How much more powder on average can you expect to be able to use once fireformed over the 300 PRC?
