30-06 for long range hunting

Hello all I've been throwing around the idea of putting together a 30-06 to fill the gap between my 308 20 inch barrel and 300 win mag 24inch barrel for a lighter long range rifle.is anyone using a 30-06 for 500 plus yard hunting? If so what have you had good luck with and is it worth it? I'm looking at using a barrel length of 24inchs and I already have alot of components to hand load for it from my last 30-06 I've been really interested in 30-06 ai but not sure if it's worth it or not

I think it would work just fine for 500 yard hunting. I would stick with bullets in the 180-200 grain class though which should give more positive expansion. As far as the A.I goes, its a little step up but the 300 Sherman is a big step if you want '06 case size.
I ran 190's in mine at 3050 with a 28" barrel.
