.30-06 AI?

Good day all! Anyone out there have any experience with the .30-06 AI?

I have a couple of AI's. Much better that the parent case. You can add about 7 more grains in the case and use slower powders. The real gains with any rifle is longer barrels

06 AI has been one of my primary hunting rigs for years. Current rifle is set up for 165 grain AB @ 3050 fps. Next one I build will have a matched set of chamber reamer and sizing reamer. Set up correctly the 06 AI is easy to deal with.

Thank you fraz. My primary purpose will be a lightweight elk rifle with a 24" barrel. No crazy long range shots, probably out to 400 yards. My hope is to push a 180 gr bullet to 2800 fps or better.

180 @ 2800 is easy peasy.

Both from a standard 30-06 with a 21" barrel.
If all you want is 2800 with a 180- a std 24" 30-06 will get you there

Keep in mind there could well be concessions and to gain what? Perhaps on the north end (with sane pressure) 100 fps...one would need to weigh into the mix how well it will feed.

I love my AI's but rarely have seen them feed as well as the standard case. Now I had guys tell me "not mine it feeds great". Then I've actually had the chance to run them and they feed like generic dog poop........

Just something to consider. Real world now what will a 180@ 2800 do that a 180 @2750 won't do and or what will it do that a 168 @ 2800-2900 won't do.

Curious what would be velocity be in a 28 inch.

My standard 06 Serengeti with 28 inch Krieger runs the 215 Hybrids a little over 2800 with n560 or RL17.

A 180HH shot out of son's stock 700ADL 30-06 22" barrel with W760 touched 2900 and final load was 2850 and stupid accurate. Load is in Hammer spreadsheet. I only used W760 since I have a lot of it and is great for 06.

I get a comfortable @2800FPS from my std. 30-06 with a 180 Accubond and 60.0 Gr of RL19, Lapua brass and 24" bbl. Excellent accuracy. In my book.....a 180 @ 2800 is a LOT of hurt for anything you encounter.

One of my mule riding hunting partners had a 30/06 AI, he shot the 200g Partition at 2800, and if my memory is correct, he was running cci 250 in R#22. He had another load with the 180's at 3000, same powder.

Two other partners and I were running 7 Mags with 160g Partitions.

As you can imagine, the 200s, got the edge on penetration.

The 30/06 AI, and 358 Win are on my bucket list.

Course if you were running a 175 instead of the 160 then the penetration would of been the same as the 200
