I was lucky enough to win a 30-06 weatherby vanguard with a little work i had an ackley improved with a bell carlson stock to try out. I ended up shooting 165 accubonds with superformance powder which was about all i could get my hands on.
64.3 grains 3070 fps 1 inch groups. this year was good ended up with a nice 6 point bull and a 175 inch muley. I decided to experiment with some berger 190 grain vld bullets after researching i found some rl22 how lucky. Started out with 61,61.5 62,62.5 and stoped at 63 grains. The 62.5 were at 2879 the 63 i shot yesterday were at 2911 and 2930 wow. The primers looked good ejected smooth nothing sticking. I need to try them on paper now. I also got my cooper 280ai last month after a 10 month wait and i just mounted a vortex hs-t on it. Looks like i wll have a lot of fun this spring.

Very nice-

Glad to see you experimenting with the Ackleys- they are very cool indeed.

Great move on the 30-06 AI. The 280 AI is also a good choice, maybe close in velocity and weight with the 30 cals, but the bcs available in 7mm are very hard to beat.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

PS just between us, what range were those heavy horned muleys on?

There are no mountains around Jackson Hole!! Sorry couldn't help it. I lived in Big Piney for 16 years.

Be careful with those RL powders...they do not have a good reputation for temperature stability. If you sight in at 70 degrees and hunt at 30 degrees, you are likely to get big swings in muzzle velocity and point of impact at medium and long ranges. You might want to try to work up some loads with Hodgdon extreme powders, which are proven temperature stable.
