.284 win bullet weight question

Yes, it will stabalize up to 180 grain bullets. I had mine built with a 1-8" so i could dabble with the 195 berger EOL when it comes out but it shoots the 162 amax like a house on fire! Shot a .25 MOA group, took the magnetospeed off (SD was 2 fps for 5 shots) and drilled another .25 MOA group.

My first 284 win also, i had it built earlier this summer and it has put 4 animals in the dirt, a whitetail doe at 560 yards, a mule deer buck at 520 yards, an antelope buck at 330 yards, and a bull elk at 245 yards. My load for the 162 gr amaxs is 52.8 grains of H4350 in necked up lapua brass, fed 210 gm primers, seated .073" off the lands. Are you building on a long action?

Yea, trying to locate a rem 700 long action receiver to build on.

My 284 is build on a long action and gunsmith use 6.5x284 Norma reamer and 7mm throating reamer. With 160gr AB I'm 30 thousands off and it's long throated and OAL is 3.150".

I would make up some dummy rd with bullets you want to use and talk to your gunsmith. My 6.5x284 OAL was 3.250" set up for the 140/142gr VLD bullets.

I've got a hunt planned this coming year with the 284 got enough points for rifle bear tag and buck antelope and I should be able to get 4th season either sex elk tag. Not sure if I want archery or rifle mulie buck tag also have option on cow elk tag.

I'm going to stick with the 160gr AB for now but that could change. I used same barrel spec for my 280AI a 1/9 twist barrel @ 27 1/4" and I'm shooting R-17 in both rifles and I have both Win 284 brass and laupa 6.5x284 Norma brass necked up.

I've had pretty good luck with 284Win brass for a tight neck 6x284 and my 6.5x284 Norma had a tight neck also and I use Win beside the Laupa brass in that rifle also.

I wanted the 160gr bullets in the 3000fps range and it's pretty accurate rifle and was real easy tuning a load for it.

Well good luck
