From what I'm seeing the 280ai is less recoil then a 7saum. That is the best apples to apples you can do.

I am a .284 fan and have several flavors. Two .280 Rems, two 7mm-08s and a 7mm Rem mag. I chose the 280ai, well... because it is just cool!
And it seems to be about ideal for my needs. The SAUM would serve the same purpose though.
