Helping to develop some loads for the 280 AI using a variety of bullets.

We've been interested in trying the Hornaday 175 grain ELD-X. Intended as a deer and possibly elk hunting round. Thought it may be a possibility as a step up from the 163 grain variety.

Has anyone tried this bullet in the 280 AI? Velocity results?

Haven't seen much loading data out there for this caliber/bullet weight combo so just thought I'd ask here.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried both in 2 9 twist 280 AI's and the 162's shot better in both. H4831sc was the best powder I tried. I was at about 2900 fps with the 162's in a 24" barrel

How many grains of H4831sc with the 162eldx? Just about to load with that combo. I have a 24" 9.5 twist.

I'm now leaning towards the 162 version for this rifle.

Looks pretty easy to get them t that 2900 range.

Not enough difference with the 175 to bother for the game sought and performance at the ranges we expect to shoot.

I've had great luck with the 143 ELD-X in my Creed on a bunch of game from pronghorn to red stag in NZ. This 280AI should be even better.

I've got a bunch of 4831 SC, H1000 and some 7828 to work up some loads and find the accuracy/speed node for it.

Thanks for the input.
