I'm looking to get info on barrel life from a 28 nosler ? I'm looking at the CA mesa 26'' with break. i want to run 175-195 berger or eldx bullets . I've herd as short as 600 and around 1200 looking for any info thanks

I've got 250 down the tube and zero signs of fire cracking but I only fire 3-5 shots when I'm at the range to verify drops and keep comfortable with the rifle for hunting season. My 6.5 and 6 creed get all the range time.... if I get 800 I'll be happy and it should last me 8-10 years. And at that point I'll just rebarrel it again for 28nosler. The ballistics to recoil are awesome and perfect for hunting.

I agree. 50 shots a year from a hunting rifle that has 500 rounds of life is ten years. I gotta think it would last double that if shot appropriately.

Built my personal 28 in 2016 and I have under 400 rounds through it. RL33 and 180hybrids is all I feed it. I did mess with the 195s a little but just settled on 180 for the life of the barrel. It's built on an untrued rem 700 action, surface ground lug and Brux barrel. Slinging 180s at 3140fps shoots 1/3moa at 300 & 1/2 at 500. Zero vertical, done deal it just kills now. Don't over complicate things. Don't waste a bunch of time with loads. Lots of load data out now for 28 nosler. Mines a .188" throat.

What powder charge you running and what OAL?

I shoot the 195gr with r33 and 85.2gr OAL W/hornady comparator 2.972. I average 3030 which for my rifle is the lower node.

I've wanted to try the 180gr but my rifle shoots the 195's great and like the earlier post it's not worth wasting barrel life to find that "perfect" 1/4moa load. To me single digit SD and .5moa will kill anything I point at for a long way out.

how is the recoil on that load ? comparable to a 300 win mag or rum ?

my 28's recoil is much less then 30.06 unbraked. Runs a Terminator T3, around 11.5 pound rifle. 180 eld-m at 3050fps.

I shoot mine suppressed and the recoil is not bad at all, 3 rounds max on the range and let it cool.
