Hello guys,

I am currently loading the wby case with 68.3 grains of 7828, and shooting a 150 VLD at 3077 average. The gun shoots pretty well with this load. It does .5 to .6 MOA. Now, I still have 4 grains of powder that I can play with. So the question is, should I try to get the 150 grainer to 3200 fps? Or should I just stay where I am at? I am concerned about case life since its pretty pricey.

What do you all think?

If you are happy with the load, don't change it. Adding more powder may give you more speed, but you will lose longevity of the brass. That load sounds plenty good and an extra 100-200fps won't kill a deer any deader :D

I have a 270 Wby that I run at full throttle with 130's. So far my cases(wby/norma) have 8 firings on them and are still going strong. Why not experiment with hotter load's? You may find them to be just as accurate, if not more so. The extra velocity may or may not result in faster kills, but it will definitely give you less drift and a flatter trajectory.

You have a 270 Wby!!! Run it like it was intended, fast!!

Whats ur load with the 130s?

73.5 grains of IMR-7828ssc and a Hornady 130 SST. This nets 3450 FPS and consistent sub moa. The load is over max in Hornadys book, but their Wby data is wayyy watered down as they don't use actual test data. Of course, always work up though. As a reference, IMR lists 76 grains as the max for a 130 grain Nosler in their data. Fwiw, my gun is a Mark V.

To put it in perspective, my 270 Wby, with this load, shoots flatter than my 220 Swift.

3077fps with a 150grn pill in a 270 roy is just getting started, run the wby where it likes which 99% of the time is balls to the wall. My go to was 74grns of RL22 under a 140 accubond for 3433fps avg but that was from a 28" barrel. I could hit 3320 with 150s and H4831, Imr7828, or RL22, and a handfull of my cases had 10+ reloads on them, always good to hit a norma/wby case with a mild load first to work harden the case head, then start lighting a real fire in em! Good luck.

Love it... got the discussion started.

I'm running 73.5 gr of 7828 with a 140 AB. It's hot, but shoots really well in my bee.

latest load I been runnin is 73 gr 7828, Wby case, Fed 215, 140 berger vld, 3.350 OAL, Win pre-64 mod 70 26 in bbl. 3330 fps and good accuracy.

3250-3275fps, more if you use a CCI250 or 9 1/2M because the primer won't have as much start pressure.
