270 Shooters still exist????

I've hunted a bit with a Ruger American in .270, and I think it is a fine cartridge. I've only shot 2 deer and 7-8 coyotes with it. I do prefer shooting traditional soft point lead loads, with those it seems to be excellent. Not any fault of the cartridge, but I've not been happy with the solid copper loads I'm forced to use in my home state.

Yep, have a Win Model 70 EW in 270 Weatherby, and my oldman uses a Ruger 77 tang safety in 270 Win.
We both run 150gr Partitions on Sambar deer here. I shoot much longer ranges than my oldman, hence using the Weatherby.

Cheers.
:)
Just wanted to see how many guys are shooting 270s on game and what favorite loads are.

I have three .270's, .270 Wby, .270WSM and .270 Win. The Wby is still waiting for a new barrel, the WSM is my least favorite and the .270 Win just shoots bug holes with several bullets as long as I use H4831SC. Can't wait to get the Wby mark V back. Would like to try it in an AI some day.

Have an early rem sendero in .270 win. Was my main deer rifle for many years. Got away from it last few years. Re-scoped it this spring and will hunt it some this year. Shoots 130 SGK's over 54.5 grains of IMR4350 really well.

A Bolt II in 270 WSM 23" factory tube.
110 Barnes TTSX / RL19 @ 3540 fps.
275 zero nets less than 10" drop @ 400
I have a Winchester Mdl 54 ,factory s/s barrel in 270 Win. California I have use copper bullets . Barnes 130 TSX RL 19 WLR WIN BRASS. I been trying 110 Barnes . I like the 130 for elk and 110 for deer.

Those 110 work great. Pass throughs on 212 lb and 236 lb pigs. And 23" of penetration on a nice buck. The recovered bullet weighed 105 grains.

Shootin a Ruger M77 Mark II in 270 win. shoots the 130 grain Trophy Bonded Tips around 3/4 MOA haven't tried to reload yet but its on the list. worked great on my elk and deer last hunting season

CZ American 550 bought new in about 2008. Killed a bunch of mule deer, coyotes, hogs, a few whitetail and one cow elk with a 130 Gr Hornady SST on top of 58gr H4831. The gun is topped with a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40LR with Varmint Hunter Reticle and shoots easily under 1MOA if I do my part. My cousin runs the same load in his Weatherby Sub-MOA Vanguard and it shoots really well through it also.

I've always wondered how the Barnes 130 would do on Elk. Can you expand on your experience with that? I used the 130 SST on a cow elk once and it came apart inside the shoulder. Still got the cow, but I was left wishing for a better bullet.

I have a browning Xbolt carbon stainless .270. it's a fluted barrel. Its very accurate with right load. I'm using Nosler case, cci primer, h4831SC and 140gr BergerVLD
