260 AAR ?

Hi all,
I am pretty new to reloading so please bare with me. I just sadly but happily inherited a few guns from my grandpa and have a question on one particular. It is a 6.5 caliber with 260 AAR stamped on the barrel. I'm wondering what exactly it is and where can I get dies for it? Is it an ackley cartridge? I do have a 6.5x57 and the two cartridges are basically the same with a little shoulder difference. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Isn't the 257 Roberts based on the 7X57 cartridge??

O K history of the 260 AAR . It was designed to rebore the 6.5 jap rifle for a bit more whomp and it sure did. in power the 6.5 creedmore is a 4 cyl and the 260 AAR is a 350 v8 . another way the only two 6.5 s that will out perform it is the 264 winchester and the 6.5 remington magnum although it is very very close to the 6.5 remington.. I have a set of dies for this thing called the 6.5 x257R Improved.. do not compair it to the 6.5x55 it shoots all bulllets 200 fps faster. from ackley #1 A 129 bullet at 3080--- a 140 bullet at ----2900. now I knew P O and I acquired his book for him at his place in Utah in 1976.. His data is on the american made 4350 and todays 4350 is not the same at all.. thus you will have to work up your loads.

Just read your words, I hung my hat on P.O.'s words. I had a .260 AAR, was a wonderful hunting rifle. P.O. put a .257 Ackley bbl. on my Rem. action. Still have it, love it. If you are a reloader, hardly ever have to trim for length, thanks to min. body taper and 40 Degree shoulder. Had a 1-12 twist and with 90gr bt hp was a jewel for acc.
4895 was best powder. Set it in a Rosewood stock. 26" bbl straight taper to 3/4 muzzle 12 lb but I never lugged it over mountains.
