26 nosler recoil?

Recoil comparison all depends on the rifles and loads. I once had a Remington Sportsman 78 in 30-06 that the recoil would stomp you and throw rocks at you. Felt recoil was much heaver than a Ruger 77 in 338 Win mag. I was given a used Bell and Carlson stock for the 78 (which is nothing but a poor man's Rem 700 made in the 1980s) and after putting it in that stock the first time I shot it I thought I had a squib load the recoil was so much lower. Only way to really know what the recoil will be is to shoot the rifle you want. It is strange to me how the 26 Nosler is being talked up as being the greatest thing since sliced bread and the 264 Win mag is spoken of as a barrel burning dog. I have a Rem 700 with a 27 3/4" Shilen barrel in 264 Win mag that does 3350 fps with 130 Accubonds pushed with Retumbo. It has less felt recoil than a comparable rifle in 7mm Rem mag shooting 140 gr bullets.

I agree with both above. The 264 win mag firing 140's at 3200 is about 19.5 pounds of energy and the 30-06 firing 180's at 2700 20.3 pounds. At least that according to Chuck Hawks recoil table.

Sounds very manageable to me.

Good luck and shoot straight

The push of the recoil is faster, but slightly less force than a 30-06 in the same rifle. Stock design and rifle weight make a huge difference in felt recoil. I have had two 26's, in a standard weight rifle it is pretty manageable. In my fierce ti it can be a little snappy. One thing I find is a fast twist barrel in a light rifle makes for a twist to the left with the recoil. The rifle not only jumps back, but has a trist as well.
