I know this has been talked about numerous times but I could not get a consensus on what I am thinking about what I want to reload in my new Remington 700 LSS 257 Weatherby Mag.

I've broken in the barrel with the cheap Weatherby Ammunition 257 Weatherby Magnum 100 Grain Norma Spitzer and now have a few boxes of once fired cases to use to reload.

I've gotten a box of of Berger VLD 115 gr. and a box of Scirocco II 100 gr. from a member here and I am going to purchase Nosler Accubonds 110 gr. and Barnes TTSX 100 gr.

For powder I've used in the past when reloading for a 300 weatherby I really liked H1000 and IMR 4350. I am also thinking about for other options of powders getting some Retumbo, RL 25, IMR 4831 and IMR 7828.

For primers I want to use Federal #215 Large Mag.

I want to try the Scirocco II, Berger, Accubond and the TTSX in the rifle.

Des anyone have a load/powder that works best with these bullets?

I mainly will be shooting whitetails and paper with these.

TIA

In my Accumark 257 Wby

I like H4350 powder with the Barnes TTSX 80 grain Bullet

I suggest to stick with a controlled expansion Bullet in the 257 WBY to avoid meat loss.

Expect exit holes in small TX deer that will take alot of meat with the Bergers VLD 115gr.

Suggest get a Neck sizer die for your brass once U shot thru Your rifle it will make your cases last longer.

For TX Whitetails the 80gr Barnes TTSX would kill like instant and very Flat shooting

I like H4350 with the 80 gr Pills using Fed 215GM Primers in WBY cases and trim to 2.539"

I use the 100gr TTSX over 71gr of RL-22. This load is very accurate and chronys at 3590 out of a 26"bbl. I have tried 7828 and RL-25 but keep going back to RL-22.

Thanks for the info.

Does anyone else have a load for bergers, scirocco II or accubonds?

And does anyone use Retumbo powder with the 257 weatherby?

Thanks!

Retumbo might work with the heaviest bullets in the 257 WBY as well as Reloader 25.

I have very good luck with Reloader 22 in the 257 WBY.

My brothers rem in 257 roy thrived with I 7828. I don't normally promote that powder, but it really loved the powder and delivered both accuracy and velocity very well.

I use to have a 257 weatherby and it was a fun rifle to shoot but it seemed to picky for me. I was getting around to tring Rl25 but never did. If you search the site there was a good read on RL25 and the 110 or 115's. My best and tightest load was 7828ssc but when the temp when up the load went south. It went from 3 shots toughing at 100 to about .8inch group as the temp got above 60 degrees. I was loading max. Probablly H1000 will be the most consistant in the rifle or was the most consistant in mine. But I sold mine off to get a 6.5x284. For as hunting I remember taken an antelope at 258yrds with the weatherby 115 blastic tips and it smoke her in her tracks. Not a lot of meat loss. I took another at 400yrds same bullet and this time the bullet went all the way through but left about a 50cal hole on the other side. I must say it was probablly the best shot I've ever made because it played out like slow motion in the scope. I seen the impact ripple on the goat and the blood start coming out. Lope spunn over backwards and did a flip. I only shot the 110's and the 115's but not very many of the 110's. The heavier the bullets the less wind drift. Something to think about. I would think if RL25 would work retumbo will also work as well. my 2cents.

four of us have used RL-25 with the 115 Bergers. My 28" 257 3 groove became quite rough and began destroying the 115 VLDs at round count 600. Switched to moly coated 110 Accubond. Also used RL-25.

Then RL-33 came out....switched and discovered that I could get more velocity over RL-25.

Original load with moly 110 accubond: 75.5 gr of RL-25 vel 3615 fps

RL-33:

80 gr 3432 fps
81 gr 3525
82 gr 3559
83 3625 which slightly faster than old load with RL-25
83.5 3674 fps shot well two shots were same velocity
84 gr 3704 fps shot well two shots were same velocity
84.5 gr 3735 slight signs of pressure on one case of four this is max case capacity with drop tube

Settled on 83.5 gr for new load.

CDL does its absolute best with a sierra flat based pro hunter and 7828 and a fed match primer. About unbelievably the second best load in that gun is the exact same load with nosler 100 grain ballistic tips. Ive killed at least 2 doz deer with each of those loads and one does as well as the other and neither have left me wanting. They kill deer like the hammer of thor.

IMR 7828, RL22, RL25, H1000 in that order. IMR 7828 seems to perform in the weatherby case.
I'm assuming your going to shoot 100gr and heavier bullets

70 gr of h1000 pushing a 117 sst at 3100fps gives me 5/8'' groups at a 100 yards in a vanguard!
