I'm building a 280AI (SAAMI) and I have several hundred pieces of 25-06 brass.
Q: will it mandrel and fire form to 280AI? Both have the same parent (30-06). I haven't run any numbers on brass OAL.
I use mandrels, I've run a couple of my 7mm mandrels down some 25-06 brass, no issues, opens it right up.

Thanks

Brother @B-LOT Banga is correct. While they have the same parent case, the .280 AI is longer (2.525"); .25-06 and .30-06 are .2494" - a .031" difference. I used .35 Whelen, .30-06, .270 Win, and .280 Rem on my .30 Gibbs. I also have .30 Gibbs head-stamped brass from Qualt Cart.

Yes, it will work, but you have a better choice.

If he fireforms it, say with a relatively fast powder with the bullet just touching the lands and his ejector plunger removed…would it form to the correct size?
I agree the simple and easy button and probably the better choice is to just buy 280 AI Brass. The reason why I mentioned this is because I'm building a 25 Sherman and I have several 25-06head stamped brass and I planned on using it to fire form to a 25 Sherman.
