I've got a X-bolt in a 243. It loves the 55gr Nosler but it's almost impossible to get the bullets in deep enough to seat.

They seat very shallow.

Is that the case for all 243's or can a the throat/barrel be shortened to get a deeper seat?

How far are you seating from the lands ?

The standard neck length for the 243 is .258, you should be seating at least .200 to get consistent SDs.

I recommend at least .020 off the lands and on light bullets more if necessary to get enough neck/bullet engagement.

If you do minimum case sizing, accuracy will not suffer by seating the bullet deeper.
