2026 Predator and Varmint Thread - Post Them!

Snuck out to the ranch this weekend to try to thin out the prairie dogs and rock chucks. Weather didn't cooperate the entire time, but I was able to connect in 48 prairie dogs in the hour before sundown Friday night. Tallied another 36 on Saturday.

That makes for about 2700 rounds on this Tikka CTR 223 barrel. I'll be pulling the barrel later today and installing a Proof prefit I've had ready for 2 years .

On my 2nd stand Friday night, I played pup distress and had this male come running in after about 2 min. I kept waiting for him to stop, then I finally sent the 77 TMK his way.

Went out Saturday night and the wind was pretty terrible. Not ideal for calling, so I wasn't surprised to not have anything come in. Spotted these two coons and the 77 TMK put them down.

Especially since they were only trapped for about 6 hours

No kill shots but spent 3 days in SD after prairie dogs. Very windy so had limited success but had a blast doing it. 22 CM on the shooting bench.

The 512 shot was his longest ever for anything. Dialed it up for him after entering his factory data for his Ruger American 223 into the Eagle Ballistics app. 1st shot was 3' right ( exact wind hold per the app, but he didn't understand to hold it that far) dead on elevation. 2nd shot was 1' right. 3rd shot got it. He was beside himself. SD farmer that we hunt pheasant with in his corn fields, absolutely the salt of the earth. Has hunted literally all over the world. Going to kill a walrus in Canada somewhere this year.

I'm in southern Alberta for a week shooting Richardson Ground Squirrels (gophers). It's too windy for them to come out of their dens right now so I'm shooting rocks to pass the time.

I do this all the time. Thought it was just me. LOL
