2023 cow hunt

Bow season was mostly a bust for me. I took my 78 year old nieghbor with his pre 64 30-06 on an early cow hunt, and we were successful. 2 cows in three days. I used my grandfathers 35 whelan, for nostalgic purposes. I think he stopped hunting with it in his 70's. Maybe because it leaves holes the size of beer cans on exit.

I used a 200 gr partition, shot was at 288 yards.

Nothing wrong with a 35 whelen or a partition. Nice elk. What did those cows weigh?

We checked in 175 and 230 lbs of meat. So....3x that roughly

My dad's got a cow tag in the Jemez Mountains of NM starting on Halloween. It's a sweet unit that I grew up hunting that has alot of wilderness land that keeps the atv and road warriors away. I'm looking forward to it.

35 Whelen rocks! One of many 30-06 Variants that still get the job done and them some in today's world. The 35 W and 6.5-06 are my favorites.
