160 Accubond and H1000

jonesse91,

Please post your progress with Retumbo here ... I'll be walking this journey with my 7mm Rem Mag in the next month or two and will be using ADI AR2225 powder (which is the same as Retumbo) and the 160 gr Accubonds.

What primers are you using with Retumbo?

I have been doing some work with the 160 NAB and Retumbo, my average velocity at 71.0 grains was 3015.2 from my 26" barrel. The es and sd were a little high but there were no pressure signs in my rifle. I was using W-W cases and Fed. 215 primers accuracy was fair, about moa. I have some 7828 to play with next but I haven't had time yet.

I am using federal GM215M primers. I have loads worked up from 70.5 to 73.0 grains in half grain incriments. I will get to the range this weekend and post results.

I am loading 58 gr of IMR 7828sc, WLR primers in Nosler brass in both my standard .280s and am getting 2925 with 160 gr accubonds out of my 26" barrels. The mighty 7mm should easily achieve this.

I use to load the 7MMRM and used RL22, RL25 quite a bit along with IMR 4831. Here are a couple suggestions attached from Nosler and Alliant. If you could find RL26 I would bet it would outshine them all in the 7. RL22 did shoot really well and I really didn't see the big temp concerns that can be an issue. I always carried my loads in pocket wallet that kept them at even temp anyway.

I have a Ruger M77 with the tang safety in 7mm Remington Magnum. I am trying to work up a load for the 160 Accubonds but I am getting dismal velocities. With a max charge of 60 grains of IMR4350 I only attained 2800. With H1000, I worked up to 69.5 grains and got 2905. The case on that one looked the exact same as my starting charge of 66.0 grains. I am using federal GM215M primers and my gun has a 24" barrel. I don't know whether to keep working up with the H1000 with my gun or to try something else. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sean.
I have REM 700 in 7mm REM Mag 24" barrel. Just worked up a load for 160gr Accubond with 66.9 grains Reloader 26 (1gr higher than the manual), WW brass, Fed 215M primer pumped out 3021 fps and
.75" group at 100yds. My rifle likes .002 off the lands. I'm done for awhile can't find bullets or that powder at a reasonable price.

As long as you have 10 or so rounds of that recipe, your good to go. Wish I could find RE 26 for my Ackley! Not too bad with IMR 7828ssc and RE23. Thanks

I have had good luck with H1000 with the excel of finding enough of it.
162 eldx with 70grains came in around 3/4" at 3050, this has velocity on the table
168 Sierra HPBT 70.5 at 3075 my average group is .450 . This is my fun long range shooting load.

this is a 26" Montana 99.

Interesting. Nosler hasn't updated their 7mm 160 load data in over 3 editions. My edition 6 and 8 show the exact same thing.

Powder companies are always ahead of the bullet manufacturers and are my first reference source for loads. I print out the various powder loads and place them in my load books for historical reference. The way the future looks on the internet, I am making sure I have them in print. Alliant has good procedure to print or save ALL loads for each caliber and great easy reference. Very useful for Hammer loads.

I built a 7mm off a trued rem700, with a Brux 28in 1-8.5 twist, I found at max book loads primers were still round and went up til pressure signs were noticed. that was at 75gr, I backed off 2gr.
