Bought some bulldozer 2 in 150gr for my 280ai. Got some starting loads lined up with some H4831 and RL26. Just curious to see if anyone else has a recipe with these powders and what kind of success you've had
I understand completely. My bullets should be here next week and I probably won't have time to work up a load before deer season kicks off either. I will also share results once I get going with load development. It seems pretty common that these bullets pressure up much quicker than most bullets so that's something to be mindful of when working up a loadUnfortunately have not had time to play with these loads yet deer season has been going full force but I also ordered the 140s as well will be a little while but will post results and velocity's asap
Will do let me know how the 140s goI'm doing load development in my 280 AI with the 140 gr bulldozer 2 bullets. Tagging in here to see what you come up with using the 150s
Did a ladder up to 60gr with H4831 with the 150s never hit pressure but fastest velocity I got was 2882I'm doing load development in my 280 AI with the 140 gr bulldozer 2 bullets. Tagging in here to see what you come up with using the 150s
I've been looking for RL23 forever and that's the powder I think that would work very well but I was able to get up to 2900 fps with h4831 out of a 23" bbl but bolt lift was a little sticky so it settled well at 2860 And I didn't venture to RL26 because it gets toasty here in California for early rifle season and fwiw I did try the 140s and pressured at 3005 so I backed down to 2970I realize this is an older post, but thought I would resurrect. Just received a couple of boxes of 150 gr .284 BD2's to try in my 280AI. I've got a new # of RL23 I thought I would try. I have plenty of H4832SC as well as several other powders I could try, but no RL26. New Peterson brass and either BR2's or Fed215M's. Any updates or suggestions would be appreciated.
H4831 is temp stable but not high energy. As a result you are not going to get much more than 2850-2900 fps. You should try StaBall6.5. Data are available in the 2021 Hodgdon Annual Manual for 150 gr lead core bullets which can be applied the 150 Gr BD2. I would start at 54 gr and do a 1 shot ladder up to about 58 gr where you are likely to start to see pressure signs. You are likely to get above 3000 fps.I've been looking for RL23 forever and that's the powder I think that would work very well but I was able to get up to 2900 fps with h4831 out of a 23" bbl but bolt lift was a little sticky so it settled well at 2860 And I didn't venture to RL26 because it gets toasty here in California for early rifle season and fwiw I did try the 140s and pressured at 3005 so I backed down to 2970
I was one of the fortunate ones to get my hands on RL23 the other night so gonna give that a whirl not sure if I'll hit 3000 but I know I'll get over 2900 with the 150sH4831 is temp stable but not high energy.
