270wsm velocity trouble

Well it's happened before…so I'm going 30" for some help on the chrony.

Here's the rifle, gonna flute the new #5 same as that 6.
That a lot of pipe. I have no doubt you'll get the velocity. I'm considering going to 28" on my next barrel for my 6.5-06 and going Ackley with it. So I'm with you. You know the above stuff is just picking. Will your 25 Mega load hang with your pops old smoking 257 load?

I don't think so, I'm at 82-83grs capacity, and he's using an STW case. Mine will be much better behaved, and I suspect plenty fast.
He's the one that needs a 30" real bad, he's 26" and 10tw!

I got tickled when you posted his load the other day😂. Good stuff!

I got a winchester 270wsm 24 inch barrel using hornady brass and lots of 140 grain bullets. That said on powder I have tried ramshot magnum, imr 7828 reg cut and ssc , magpro, according to nosler manual I should be getting 3200 to around 3250 . Peak pressure is can barely get 3150 with slight ejector mark. Tried 130s 3200 was peak .any suggestions on what to try to gain more velocity
Is ejector mark on virgin brass or fired brass?

With a BC of only .292 velocity will fade very fast! The 129 gr LRX has a BC of .463, VG for a bullet of that caliber and weight.

Other TTSX bullets, 110 gr has a BC of .377 (much better than the 95) and 130 gr has a BC of .392.

The higher BC will not only retain better velocity, but also significantly reduce wind drift, which become important at distances of 300 yds or more.
That's why I shoot 150's as a normal hunting load.....I just want to see an impact on a coyote with these under 300 yards....and O.P. was asking about speed !

This may come across the wrong way or maybe a little cynical but is not intended at all. If for a certain caliber with a desired bullet/weight, why chase speed? Find pressure, back it off and dial in accuracy. If it's speed you want go with a larger case. There's no free lunch. Let the chamber and barrel tell you what it likes and don't try to force feed it.

This here 100%
Everything for me got better when I stopped chasing velocity and just loaded to where the rifle shot best

This is precisely why I haven't bought a bore scope!

If she shoots, she shoots, there are some things I don't need to know 🤣
I'm glad I did buy a bore scope! That big ole carbon ring I had in there that I felt like was there but wasn't sure, was confirmed? Many days later and a lot of scrubbing, it was confirmed gone, again by the borescope. Just don't obsess to much over the rest of the bore if it shoots.

I agree with those who recommend a heavier bullet for this cartridge. Less speed, yes; but not necessarily less accuracy or terminal performance. I shoot 150's but (depending on your twist rate) others prefer heavier. If intermediate or longer range is what you are after, a heavier bullet will get you there better than say a 130.

with C&C, there's no reason to go under 150.
For mono, the 130 TTSX to 500, and 129 LRX past that.

Mainly whitetail shots average from 200 to bout 350 yards but problem is majority of time u don't have time to range it or dial it .hunt lots of cutover roads that are just bush hogged . About 20 30 ft wide they just walk across and gone
I also do not have time to dial it where I hunt. At the range you are getting shots on deer, that is where a ballistic reticle really shines. I'm referring to something like Burris Ballistic Plex. I use Burris Black Diamond with Ballistic Mildot in my 270 WSM with a 150 bullet and it is simply dead on out to 400 using the proper aimpoint stadia mark. But that scope is no longer made.
For what you are doing a Burris Ballistic Plex or even a Mildot scope is quick and easy if you match your load to your scope. That will require some range work. And most likely, a heavier bullet than 140. But you just have to experiment and see. Beats dialing on under 400 yard shots any day of the week.

Longer shots are a different ballpark.

A duplex Leopold will range and allow holdover to 500 yards. very quickly.

Savage LA .270 AI 30" Lilja 3G 1:8" #6 with JP Beenie Coulee MB, Burris Veracity 4-20 with Horus Vision ASLI on a 20 MOA EGW rail. Current accuracy load, 175 Matrix VLD (my normal hunting load) 2996 FPS.

Taken at 525Y. It is one of those antelope hunt situations that turned into a coyote hunt. Four coyotes were stalking the same herd I was hunting, and the poor fellow was standing watch.

The above coyote was taken with BBP shown below.
