Two years in - how good can one get?

I shot a monster moose in the Yukon in 2010 at 265 yards. The guide was astounded at the shot. I looked at him and asked, "What? It was 265 yards."

He replied, "I have never seen anyone sit down, put their arm in a shooting sling, and shoot like that."

Seems like nowadays, everyone needs a bipod or tripod to shoot past 100 yards. And when is the last time you saw a hunter with a shooting sling instead of carry strap?
Decades shooting sling irons in service rifle competitions from 200 through 1000 helped me a lot in my hunting. When we hunted a lot in SoTex, there were no blinds and no feeders in the section. I hunted (ambushed) deer, hogs and coyotes on the long senderos, sling over my pack. Edit: 2 shooting mats, one under the muzzle to mitigate dust from muzzle blast.

What shooting sling do you recomend?

I dare say not many LR/ELR hunters walk around with a portable shooting bench, pick and shovel on their backs. LMAO.... At least none I've ever met.
Its why we use bipods, tripods, backpacks and for those ever changing shooting angles wherever the game may be found.
O hell you no fun at all. Love to see people carring all those items through the hills or mountains. I generally find rocks, tree trunks, fallen trees, or nothing else or using the sitting position to shoot from. Found those being a lot easier to carry around. 🤣 I have tried slings, but didn't have much luck using them. I very seldon stand and shoot. I will carry a triod for my spotting scope and bino to set on. I can use to rest my rifle on too.
The less I have to carry the better I like it.

5 shot group at 600 yards with my factory Tikka CTR chambered in .308 win.

It can be done with factory rifles nowadays.

I shoot lightweight guns and have dismissed several high end guns because I couldn't get them to shoot 500yd accurately and some wouldnt shoot 300 accurately. My go to gun now is the Browning Titanium and it will dial 500 to 600. I have not shot it out past that. I like my heavy guns too but not for carrying on a mountain hunt. That extra 3 to 4 lbs makes a difference for me.

Amen. I can't get myself into the high end tripod thing. Now "they" are even saying two tripods. I will use a lightweight monopod sometimes. I just shoot better in the field when I have my support hand on the forearm, the middle supported "By a rock or something" (MRE instructions joke) and there's no rear bags for me in the field. I have plenty for the range & load development.

Tall bipod, possibly a light shooting bag for really long shots, time permitting and your backpack and a range finder. What else do you need?
