Reloading 22-250 with cool burning powder ????

Tag: I used IMR 4064 in my 220 swift with a 55gr Sierra HPBT. (1-14) Without doing anything special as far as case work. I could almost turn in a bug holes @ 100yds. Running in the 3900pfs range. (5 rounds)
I just got a 22/250 in and it's in the smiths getting a Triggertech trigger and action being bedded. I was thinking of changing the 22/250 in a AI chambering, but I have the 220 swift so no gain there.
 
Varget will take a 55 grain Sierra BK to 3700 fps in my Tikka 22-250, it is a wicked load.
For a low flame temp powder, AA2700 is purported to be among the coolest burning. I have tried it in one of my Swifts and a 22-250 and it shoots fine, but it seems to be just a little more erratic and more temperature sensitive.
I have also used plenty of 4064, imr 4895, ww 760 in the 22-250 and Swfts. N160 works good in the Swift with bullets in the 60 - 64 grain range and is cool and clean burning.
In the end, for a 12/14 twisted hunting 22-250 using 50 - 55 grain bullets, the right charge of Varget may be tough to beat.

I hate to point this out, but, flame temp, just like burn rate is not constant, and a calorimeter bomb, where the data is generated from, is totally unlike a rifle barrel/chamber.
Ball powders burn cooler than any other type of powder, they 'fizzle' releasing their gas, which causes low flame fronts and temps.

Burn rate and performance based on burn rate and rifle/load specs are the most important factors. Flame temps are not in the conversation for most shooters.
I have a 22-250 ai with an 8 twist that I run H380 in and 75 grain copper rockets, I am getting 3450 with no heat issues at all. Varget is great powder. With powder being available almost every where now, those two would be a great starting point
 
I have a couple 22-250's, I load IMR4064 in one and Varget in the other. Both are 1-12 twist and I load the same 55gr bullet for both. I've never ran either load over my chronograph, but both are very accurate.
 
My Bergara is running W760 39.0gr Sierra gameking 62.0gr

I have no idea about flame temperatures but I have 2 different rifles in 22-250! One is exceptionally accurate (easily under 1/2 inch - 3 shot groups) with any 50 gr bullet I shoot through is with H-4895 and about 3850fps (measured with my chronograph). The other shoots 50 gr Hornady V-Max bullets into 1/2 inch (3 shot groups) using AA2460 , also over 3800 fps!!

If Varget will get the speed I want I am done looking at different powders. It's just that good. I've seen 22-250's still shoot fantastically well with the first few inches of bore looking like alligator skin too, lots of shooting with little or no abuse is the key. Keep the throat and rough bore ahead of the throat polished as it starts cracking and it will increase barrel life a lot more than a cooler powder.
 
I use W760 and A2700 powders to launch 55 grain V-Max and SMK out of my Savage Model 12 that has a 1:12 twist. One hole at 100 yards. No idea about temperature in chamber, but I haven't noticed overheating or throat erosion.
