It was there, however not so much as with the Creedmoor. The .308 had a military purpose and a practicality the Creedmoor didn't start out with. In my experience the .308 earned its reputation, where the Creedmoor's reputation was jammed down the public's throats through advertising. Every article in every gun magazine was the Creedmoor magazine! I personally have thought the 30-06 to be far superior than the .308, not so much today. 200 fps doesn't make the .308 less inferior today as it was years ago when compared to the 06. So in my opinion your postulate is right on and correct.

I do like being BSd about anything, especially to make sales in a product. I wanted to build a wildcat cartridge deer hunting rifle. I did a lot of research and came down to the .270 AI and the .280 AI. While doing the research I came across an anomaly with the .280 AI, that I could not seem to wrap my head around?????? Anyway after about six months of trying to figure out the anomaly I realized that Nosler made their own .280 AI instead of following the actual Ackley Improved process of straightening out the wall of the parent case and changing the shoulder angle to 40 degrees instead of that of the parent case. And…Nosler did this so they could capitalize on their own SAAMI approved cartridge. It should not have taken six months to figure out what that .040 thousandths case OAL length difference was "really" about. Anyway nice I did, I built a .270 AI.

I have a 6.5-270 with a 27" barrel. This is my pronghorn load. 143gr ELD-X.
54.9gr H1000 3004(13) 0.467(3) 100yd 71deg Win case F210M 9/22/22 Node 4.5

3000 fps and a 0.467 group size; 98% full and 100% burn with H1000 powder. Thats a long way from 2750 fps. The 6.5-284 Norma is almost
the same thing as the 6.5-06. That said, making juvenile jokes about a cartridge is a kindergarten thing.

And, I found out a long time ago that non-magnum cartridges kill just as well as magnum.
My dad was all about the biggest, hardest kicking magnums. We sold over 40 of them at his passing.
In all of my years hunting with him, I killed everything he did, except I used .277 and 6.5 in a non-magnum.

Just shy of 600.
The longest field we have is a touch longer than 1000, but I've never seen a deer at one end when I was at the other.
Maybe one day that will happen, who knows.
Most of our stands are set up with max shots of 550 to 700.

Do you glass and shoot from elevated stands Bob?

Yes and no.
We have elevated stands, ground blinds (sit against a tree with camo cloth in front that we shoot over), prone over pack, sitting in classic USMC sitting position.
It all depends on the area, and movement of the deer.
