@OG-danimal , Take a look at the Apex Afterburner 153gr. Maybe try em with N565

I run 208's in my 20" Suppressed WSM at 2750fps
Both EldM and BergerLRHT in 208grain.

With the 208EldM I've shot 1 bull at 300yds and 1 Auadad at 600yds. Performance was great!

This almost gets into the old "what's the best cartridge for Elk" discussion. "Whatever you shoot best" is the best response I've heard.

Back to the OP, I'm partial to the heavier, and therefore longer Bullet. They do better at longer range than the lighter speedier bullets in the first place. Add kinetic energy to the equation, and the heavier bullets are just better. MY OPINION!

That said, there are a lot of Elk dying at 700-1000 yds from 140gn 6.5mm bullets. (Incidentally, those are pretty long bullets with nice BC numbers). I've seen Elk killed with a .243 and a 100gn bullet, and my wife killed an Elk at 220 yds with 117gn bullet out of a 257Roberts. Put the leak in the right spot and...you get the point.

I'm sure many folks here have played around with a lot of different bullets for various cartridges. My personal experience in the .308 calibers leads me in the direction of the 180gn to 200gn+(Again, longer and higher BC's) bullets. My son has a 300wsm (Tikka) that just doesn't like 200gn bullets, but will spit out any 180gn bullet right where he wants it. Both will likely provide better down range (600yd) energy than faster at the muzzle 155gn, and will make up for perceived lack of velocity with better energy than most folks think. My personal favorite all round for my 300WBY has been the 200gn Sierra SBT, when considering Cost, availability, terminal performance, but the ELDx is no slouch, and frankly, probably a better bullet than my SBT 'go to'.

Incidentally, I now use a 225gn ELDM, (300PRC) at a meager 2725fps for Elk and Antelope. Despite popular opinion, it won't rip an antelope to shreds. One rifle, one load that'll hit where I want it to hit and farther than I am capable of shooting.

I'd sure look at the 180 to 200gn+ bullets. I think Heavier, longer and higher BC is the way to go.

I think hammers would be great for standard range hunting but this isn't Standardrangehunting,com. Something that carries energy well and soft enough to mushroom at extended ranges so… Another vote for the 208 eldm, they're deadly, at any range. Nothing positive to say about Berger

I've had mean results shooting the Patriot valley bullets , they have a 163 that I'm loading for a friends gun and if I recall it has a pretty nice drop chart. They are similar in performance to a hammer but much better BC. I would also look at the badlands for good BC with a copper. No personal experience with those muse. Also had good luck with the 200/208/212 eld line.

I checked data for my 208eldM load out of 20" barrel 300wsm @ 2750mv

In Texas I hit 1500ft lbs of energy and 1800fps impact at 815yds

In Colorado elevation it's approximately 1090yds for 1500ft lbs and 1800fps impact

I'm sticking to the 208's in the WSM for down range results at longrange!

I used to run Nosler Accubonds at 2950, and they were fantastic on elk and deer out to 500. I'm sure they would have proven just as effective at 600, I simply never shot anything past 500, but out to there it was bang flop most of the time. Shot a big bodied Kansas buck at the crack of dawn one morning just a shade past 500, and I thought I had missed he fell so quickly. I looked and looked for him in an absolute panic, but when I walked over later that morning, he was laying in the spot he had stood. I'm sure there are better bullets nowadays, but I never had a problem with them, and used them in that cartridge for years.

This gets under 2" at 500y consistently for me. Best group (3 shots) was 0.5" at 515y on a really calm morning.

180 & 200 gr accubonds have never let me down. Proven performer.

Year after year, I load my .300 WSM with 62.5 grs of VV 550 topped with a 180 gr Nosler partition, and year after year I fill the freezer with elk meat.
