favorite deer caliber

.257 Roberts...On blacktails and mulies is does a fine job.
I'm getting ready to give my granddaughter a 257Roberts for Christmas. She's been shooting for a couple of years and now she wants to try deer hunting. The 257 came to mind, light recoil pretty decent ballistics . I also thought maybe 243 , but I think overall the 257 Roberts is a little bit better. Her parents, my son just moved to Kansas so she is going to be seeing some nice deer. But I'm thinking a heavier bullet and a good bullet should be enough. Fingers crossed

270 hands down. My grandfather, dad and brothers all used 270's for many, many years and killed more deer with them, along with more than a few elk. I've also taken several caribou and black bears with mine, so was my primary for nearly 30 years.

243….This was back before I knew you needed a 900 magnum and a 750 solid to kill a white tail. We used to cull a lot of does on three different ranches and all I ever used was a 243 worked quite well. I still have that rifle and I still enjoy shooting it but I have many others therefore he gets a lot of safe time sitting on the bench just waiting for his turn to get to play

Whitetail Deer... .44 Mag and/or .30 WCF... Mule Deer... .257 Wby Mag and/or .308 Win If I went with "one" I guess from the above I'd use my .308 Win. Cheers

I think the Bob is the perfect youth cartridge ❗
I love my 257 Roberts, Remington 760 with the trigger Done

I've killed several Mule Deer, about 40-50 Axis deer and I can't remember how many WT with my Rem 700 25-06. It loves the Hornady 117 grain bullets and they normally find their mark. 25-06 Rem for me most of the time
Mr Baker you're right on the money. I own 4 25-06 of every flavor. I shoot federal 115 grain partition. Love it.

I've killed the most deer with 22 cal. in 223 Rem, my favorite is 30 cal. in 30-06. That being said I killed my buck this year with a 300RUM.
