Does anyone have any history or experience with this optic? I am in the process of getting my brother in law into LR shooting and he is drooling over this scope.

Just watch your local hunting regs, any scope with a laser range finder in it (not separate) is considered a "smart gun" and not allowed for hunting big game in CO- so check your local regs before you pop for one.

Thanks, I seem to recall MT may have similar rules on the books.

When I looked into the dS a couple of things stood out, the first was the light transmission at 83% as compared to 93% for the Z8i scopes and between 90 and 91% for the Z5 and Z3 scopes.
The second was the lack of 40mm scope rings available, granted this was a couple of years ago and I see that Warne amongst others now have Mountain Tech 40mm rings but they are around $185 per set.
The dS is a seriously heavy scope at 38.4 oz compared to the even the heaviest 2.3-18x56 Z8i at 25.6 oz.

I have used it first hand. It works well and is an impressive piece of gear but does have it's draw backs. The most obvious being size and weight.
