.308 win

If I had had to keep only one rifle, it would be my GA Crusader in 308. It is scary accurate right out to 1250yds, which is as far as I can shoot. I run 175gr Berger OTMT's with Varget. I love that rifle and cartridge.

For a few years, several of us used the 308 for 1,000 yd BR, and several of us used it on the 100/200yd BR line with very good success. Not to mention for decades, it was the go to caliber for National Match and of course, Palma. It was easy to create a very accurate load and with a little more time, super precise BR loads that shot bug holes.
As a hunting caliber, it can be loaded to the ballistic equivalent of most 30-06 factory loads.

With the advent of high BC bullets in smaller calibers and the modern magnum mania, the 308 has faded from the spotlight, but in the right hands with correct loads, she still remains a very capable cartridge. I still own a few, and one 26" heavy varmint/target rifle that with 155's and 168/175 hand loads shoots very small groups at 600 and 1,000yds. It is still a great cartridge to train people in the sport of LR shooting.

Anyone shot the 165 grain Sig Elite hunters in their 308? Claimed BC of 0.53 (more than their 30 cal 180 grain ....??).
I am planning to try them in my gun before taking it for an upcoming mountain hunt.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Kinda glad my Tikka sports a 20" bbl in 11.25 twist. It makes me wanna keep it short and help me maintain sanity by just buying ammo!! Initially, it was gonna be either a 6 br, Dasher or 6.5-284, but I told myself, "Self, just leave it alone and shoot the dam thing." Lol

I actually don't care for 308.

I like to tinker and I like Ackley improved cartridges.

My 308s are boring. CFE223 and 178gr eldx pushing 2775fps from a 26" barrel bolt gun and sub moa to 800 yards pretty much on demand. Zero fun in that. The benefit is I throw my can on it confirm zero and go hunt pretty much anything I need to at anytime.......boring
