Just got home from an awesome hunt on the Jacarilla Apache reservation. We had a good guide and saw plenty of animals. Also lots of Bulls and Mule deer bucks...just couldn't afford them.

Shot my Cow from 350 yds with a 28 Nos and a 175 ABLR. Didn't go through, but retrieved the bullet on opposite side against hide....fully expanded. Did not hit shoulder, but right behind and

through lungs, heart, etc., everything inside was mush

....she dropped on the spot.

My S-I-L went with me and shot his Cow from 250 yds, same gun and ammo, through the neck.....dropped on the spot.

Nice job ! How fast was the bullet going, did you hit a rib on the way in ? What do you think would have happened if you hit the shoulder ? Will you continue to use that bullet ? I'm a little surprised it didn't exit. My cow hunt is coming up and I'm excited as it provides delicious meat for a long time.

Best I can remember it was 3050 fps. The bullet missed all the bones (lucky?). It could have hit a rib on the exit side, now that I think about it. That bullet has killed three cows for me now, so I think I'll continue to use that bullet and load. I believe last years cow (I'm having a little CRS) was shot in the shoulder and penetrated, didn't recover bullet.

Just looked at my notes...it was actually 3000 fps.
